The overnight Nielsen Ratings are in, and they are a disaster for Katie Couric.
Couric's CBS Evening News was beaten by ABC WNT in New York, Chicago and other major markets
After all the hype, CBS and the other networks had expected a "honeymoon" lasting for at least a month as viewers sampled Couric's new show. It lasted one night.
Although she eeked out a national ratings win, the big cities have already abandoned her.
In places such as New York, Chicago and Philadelphia, where the big advertising dollars are spent, last night's CBS/Couric ratings free-fall mean one thing; Viewers sampled her Wednesday night, and didnt like what they saw.
The huge ratings drop would have been understandable had there been a major breaking story, and viewers would have been expected to go to Gibson or Williams for Cronkiteian experience and gravitas. But it was a slow news night, a perfect time for Couric's "perky charm" to radiate and attract viewers, but both she and the ratings fell flat.
Bottom line, $15 million a year and months of super-hype.... all for nothing.
Old contacts at CBS I spoke with this AM said everyone is making lunch reservation to eat/drink together.... but at restaurants far from Black Rock or West 57th. Everyone wants a "tribal think" to decide who (other than themselves) is to blame for this disaster, but they are eating in out of the way places in Greenwich Village or the East Side, so they wont be seen together.
There will be much more of this over the weekend.
I don't think they were "thinking". Someone posted something about getting her in the chair to usher in the Hildebeast in '08. Appealing to the female voter and all that. What a bunch of horse ish.
....got ANY of Helen Thomas. :D
......just kidding.
The only thing from CBS that's allowed in my house is fottball and some other sporting events, the same goes for ABC & NBC. Good riddance MSM!!!
Adios by next March (After February ratings book} or June (after May book.)

Do you mean Ms. Couric or the network in general? (Hoping for the latter.) :)
He is pretty cool. I have never been able to stand Pam's syrupy vapidness.
Life is good.
I, gulp, watched Katie last night in order to see the Rush segment.
It will be the only time.
"Hey, Katie! You'll never have lunch in this town again!"
You mean... the 'eggs' didn't help?!
What's amazing to me is not that she's already failed, but that the whole thing has gotten wall-to-wall MSM coverage.
The girl is annoying, she could even be to the right of Ann Coulter and she'd still be annoying.
I couldn't watch because I had to straighten my stereo wires.
Maybe she can have another colon exam during the news cast. Face it folks CBS news has been toast long before Katie.
I think CBS was hoping Katie would be able to capture the *Oprah* audience...
Network news might as well hang it up..Cable has pulverized
ABC,NBC and CBS News...
Personally I have been getting into Nancy Grace's show..
Gutsy no nonsense gal!
All right, said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone."
Conservatives are furious about the 9-11 ABC story, and in no humor to watch the most biased of the three networks.
I've been a Rush fan since his first year on the air, but I wouldn't give CBS and Katie the pleasure of a ratings bump.
