I say the judge/board who let this perp out early should pay restitution for his crime and/or be sued for their part in this.
In other words, let's add the judicial system to the list of entities that can be sued for negligence when they let criminals out early and they commit more crimes in the period when they otherwise would have been in jail.
Right. Something needs to be done. He has a long string of convictions, he serves less than half of his most recent sentence, and here he goes again. You've got to wonder what's the point of it all (i.e. the decisions made by the "criminal justice system.") Obviously going back to jail is not enough of a deterrent for him, nor is getting shot (although he probably hedged his bets that he wouldn't get shot a second time, since the town has that handgun ban.) I guess the attraction of going up to the northshore (where the good stuff to steal is) from his crummy southside neighborhood provided him enough of an incentive to take the risk. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
I think the homeowner who shot him in 2003 should be held negligent and sentenced to purchase a year membership at the closest gun range. He should also be ordered to practice with his gun(s) at least 1 X week. Finally, his sentence should end when he successfully and thoroughly performs 1 hour of community service the next time somebody breaks into his home.
