Mice used to pick my mousetraps clean even when I did my best to wedge the cheese or peanutbutter into the "pan" on the trap. Turns out I was just feeding them and not catching many, lol.
Then I began greasing all the moving parts and working PB into little pieces of absorbent string and tying them in a knot around the pan. The traps are vicious. Haven't had a problem with mice since.

I put the PB under the cheese on the trigger so they have to work for it. I may try the gummy bears someone mentioned. I use lettuce covered in PB for my box traps for skunks, rats, raccoons, etc.
The Cal Fish and Game trapper set a barrel trap in my neighbors orchard today. I wonder what they use for bait?. I got pictures of 3 Black Tail Bucks just over the fence in his yard this morning. It's a month early for them to be in Rut...
