Apparently they are allowed by McCain-Fiengold C.F.R. that passed and the Supremes let stand.

Seems a little strange to me too. But Soros is a wealthy man who has a long history of not playing by what are generally considered ethical rules. He's operated at the margins and continues to do so.

IF Conservatives (big C, no other qualifiers needed) do turn out strongly to vote GOP, they will do so holding their noses (AGAIN) and not because they endorse something as nebulous (and triangulated) as "compassionate conservatism".

True, but true conservatives understand the absolute disaster of the other party in charge. They know the importance of voter turnout.

Bush should not mistake GOP votes as an endorsement of open borders. Tex. Gov. Perry should not mistake votes as an endorsement of the NAFTA highway land grab.

Why shouldn't they?

I'll bet any amount of money you could name that if Perry is reelected, he'll be screaming to everyone who'll listen that his crony capitalism scheme has been ratified by the voters.

Vote for more of the same and you'll get more of the same.

He called for a much bolder agenda from the party, including a universal health care plan, full withdrawal of troops from Iraq this year and a commitment to stop any attempt to ban gay marriage.

Theoretically Democrats would take the House and Senate in November. Is it physically possible to move 100,000 troops in less than two months?

Their is no grand national constituency for universal health care as far as I can see. Furthermore, I would invite Senator Feingold to pledge to stop any attempt to ban gay marriage. The American people aren't with them on this (at least for now) and would soundly reject such a thing.

Bruce Reed, just released a book called The Plan that calls for universal national service, requiring that every job come with a 401(k) plan, and expanding the army by 100,000 troops.

Just what exactly is "universal national service"?
