IFR CheckList:
Check Compass against assigned runway heading!
This checks both the compass and teh selected runway!
Failur to do this check can lead to bad compass or incorrect runway.
BAD OPERATING PRACTICE. LAZY!
SOP and with 2 pilots and 2 separate compass systems for redundancy, augmented by ATC control via the tower, if it is true that the wrong runway was used, it shows the true backing of the NTSB mindset that "it's never just one mistake that creates an accident but a string of mistakes together".
