Singer Steve Nicks is doing her part to support U.S. troops by donating hundreds of iPods to soldiers wounded in Iraq. The former Fleetwood Mac star regularly visits soldiers at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
She explains, "I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war. But once these soldiers sign up, go to war and come back to a hospital, I will do whatever it takes to make them better." Nicks has provided iPods loaded with her music, along with fellow artists Aerosmith and Elvis Presley.
She has also sent baby clothes to war widows, joined bedside vigils and with the United Service Organization (USO), hopes to provide every returning soldier with a music player. She adds, "Any one of them could be my own child. You can't help falling in love with every one of them."
Nothing like a crass comment about a good deed.
I went to a Fleetwood Mac concert a couple of years ago. I had no idea just how good a guitar play Lindsey Buckingham was until I saw him live. He absolutely smoked.

Really? Interesting. Now which part was ugly, Mr. Stands2reason -- that part where I said, "very cool," or the part where I pondered her "alleged" -- may I suggest you look that word up? -- her "alleged" involvement in witchcraft?
You use the singular "thing to say," which totally ignores that I made a statement and asked a question -- really, two questions: the first being contained in the word "alleged" (have you looked it up yet?) and the second being the question itself. i.e. did she ever do it (the "alleged part") and does she still do it if she ever did it? -- see, two questions in one. Clever, no?
So, once you put on your thinking cap and perceive what I really wrote, then get back to me with the clarifiation about which part was ugly. 'Cause for you people in Rio Linda, I think it's pretty cool.
In one of the South Park episods...
The goat is sent to the boys as a matter of courtesy, but the boys have nowhere to put a goat. They plan to sent it back to Afghanistan, to the Afghan boys who sent it to them. The boys get stuck in the cargo hold with the goat, and so end up in Afghanistan to meet the Afghan boys. After the Afghan boys reject the offer to get the goat back, the goat just follows the SP boys. Stan melts, but Cartman doesn't. Still, the goat goes with the boys. The soldiers hear the goat bleat, and mistake it for Stevie Nicks. This mistaken identity makes its way into the news, as the SNN anchor reports on the capture of Stevie Nicks and the SP boys. When the goat reappears outside bin Laden's cave with the boys, a soldier makes his way across the battlefield and retrieves it. The Americans pull back. After the Taliban is blown up and bin Laden killed, the armed services hold a USO show for the troops and present Fleetwood Mac to perform in concert. The lead singer, Stevie Nicks, is brought in, and she starts bleating - no one has bothered to tell the troops that the goat is not Stevie Nicks.

Lindsey Buckingham is one of the greatest guitarist of our time, and most underrated. I saw Fleetwood Mac a few years ago and to see him play live is truly an unforgettable experience. He did the entire song, 'Big Love', by himself- just him and his guitar. It blew the audience away.
I applaud her for standing up and taking action, truly supporting our troops.
I'm hoping by putting all the details here, those who were upset and accusing me of hating Stevie Nicks will be satisfied that it isn't just me. She is a beautiful lady, and very successful performer. What she is doing for the troops is commendable, but even Stevie has a sense of humor about the South Park episode... ;-)

And that really is all the difference in the world. Some people take themselves soooo seriously...and some are over it. W is a really good example of this, as well. It's like a good mix of humility and sanity.
I don't even watch Southpark, but that episode you described is a hoot.

I have the "Neck and Neck" CD that they made together, but wasn't aware that they'd ever played together in front of an audience. There are some clips on YouTube, so there's a video record of their collaboration somewhere - I'll have to check further. As good as guitarists like Knopfler and Buckingham might be (and Aussie Tommy Emmanuel), *nobody* will ever fill the shoes of Mr. Guitar.
One old LP that I've been meaning to replace is titled The First Nashville Guitar Quartet, an all-instrumental project of Chet's from the late '70s. I'd love to see someone like Mark Knopfler put together a similar collaboration project with other artists (his recent CD with EmmyLou Harris is very good). I'm not sure if Lindsey Buckingham would be interested, though... he's a bit of a loner. Still, what a collection of talent that'd be.
She did take part in Fleetwood Mac's performance at the first Clintoon inaugural, I remember her being asked about him sometime afterward and she said she thought he was too immature or something like that and said she wasn't that political. So it seems like she wasn't a Clintoon worshiper or Demonrat but just played out of courtesy for her bandmates.
