All kidding aside...this is a big problem this guy solved...truly.
This issue has been hasseling cosmologists for years. The implications of this problem being solved can help in fields of applied science/physics as well. Understanding space, and its fabric, is one more step in beating Einstein's speed limit.

tracked down Perelman to a flat in St Petersburg, where he reportedly lives with his mother He can solve the world's toughest math problem but cannot leave his mommy?

The Nobel Price for Economics is essentially not a Nobel Price, it just carries the name. It's given away by some bank.
To: Baynative
"math, science or economics still have any credibility?"
I thought those were the only remaining categories WITH any credibility. God knows the peace prize is a joke.

The Lit Prize gets it right every now and again.

At least the other prizes are only given away if a problem has been solved.

Do other catagories like; math, science or economics still have any credibility? We'll know they no longer do when Americans quit dominating.

God, if only singers and actors were this honest!

This guy is clearly a special person, mathematically, but I suspect it is offset by other problems generally hidden away by most societies.
Not to suggest that he doesn't deserve the prize(s).

The good doctor recognizes a farce when he sees one. The Nobel was given to the likes Jimmah Cahter and yASSer araRATfink too.

Proud to present to you the Nobel Price for Arrogance. Price money was used for the stamp. Horray!

Big deal...Einstien was thought to be un-teachable by his elemetary teachers and had trouble tying his own shoes.
Sometimes the ones with the highest intelligences have "low-end" problems all their own.

I turned down a Nobel last year for the category "Things in General."
I think awards are so outre. Don't you?

He's eccentric to say the least. And his poor mom surviving on $74 a month! Too bad they can't put it in a trust or something for him, in case he changes his mind -- or at least give some of it to his mother so she can take care of him.
