GOP Allen's Once Large Lead Evaporates: In an election for the United States Senate in Virginia today, 8/21/06, incumbent Republican George Allen edges Democrat challenger James Webb 48% to 45%, according to an exclusive SurveyUSA poll conducted for W*USA-TV in Washington, DC.
Since an identical SurveyUSA poll released 6/28/06, Allen has lost 8 points and Webb has gained 8 points. Allen's lead has shrunk from 19 points to 3 points.
Interviewing for this poll began 8/18/06, one week after Allen singled out a Webb campaign worker at an Allen rally. Allen has lost support across all demographic groups, but in particular, among younger voters. He has gone from Plus 23 to Minus 17, a swing of 40 points. In Southeastern VA, Allen has gone from a 2:1 lead to a tie, a 31-point swing.

OMG! Tell me you are not buying the insanity of the WaPo hit pieces.
Don't you understand? This happens to every Republican. Every single one. Every time. The Democrats manufacture offense better than GM manufactures cars.
What moronic comment?
Allen's presidential ambitions are not severely damaged by this. In fact, in GOP primaries, he can probably use it to his advantage if the media piles on. Every GOP primary voter I know despises the MSM.
Trent Lotted. Hopefully the rest of his career will not be spent apologising and standing behind certain issues such as quotas in order to show that he's a "compassionate" conservative.
So which is it, racist idiot or cosmopolitan bigot?
Considering the "leftest" sources, I would think the poll is a big dung pile.
Yes, it's okay. Because it's completely made up and nonsensical.
Oh, and welcome to the forum.
Whatever. I'm just saying the truth. He put his foot in his mouth. He should be more careful on the campaign trail especially since he is under scruitiny. This has nothing to do with my feelings for Allen so don't start trouble when there is none.
Oh I realize that. I understand that the Republicans always have to pay the price for their mistakes and Democrats get away with it all. I think Allen has to be more careful considering his background. He's being watched more than the other Republicans by the Democrats. They seem to want to catch him in a racial slur.
What the Washington Post said Allen said was not accurate. But its too late now and its pretty damning anyway.
ohfercryinoutloud, what do they expect after a week and a half of the media and the rats have been pounding the Senator for a week with that stupid story?
1) It's AUGUST
2) Senator Allen still has 6 times the funds that Webb has.
LOL -- I am borrowing that one!
That's a great graphic. I borrowed it from somebody else on FR.
True. This will blow over. The media is out to get him. Would you belive they are going back to the 1990's when he was on a board of a company that is now being investigated by the SEC. It's starting to hit the blogs now. It seems Webb is doing so poorly that they need to dig in real deep to try to get something on Allen.
Oh, I gotta blog on it tonight cause the world's ending tomorrow...such a shame the mortgage payment cleared today...
