It is not the reverend that has offended the Catholic Conservative base that elected George W Bush. George Bush is the one who has alienated pro-lifers with integrity.
If the president came out for an assualt weapons ban how would you expect the NRA to respond? And when they attacked the president would you tell them to shut up and be thankful they got two judges. If the president announced he was for national health care would you tell the Cato crowd to be quite and stay focused on the WOT. The good rev is the head of a catholic pro life group... it is his job to stand up for the values of his organization

Only the first and last sentence of your post are germane to the fact of what the reverend said and the fact that President Bush is a man of integrity and made a decision based on his convictions of what would be best for the public he serves. And, I disagree with you that the Catholic conservative base elected Pres. Bush. They, along with scads of other self interested groups and millions of just plain good American citizens, got George Bush elected. Who does the Catholic Conservative base that you refer to have in mind to vote for in October? A person who can win and hold the line on abortion, or a non winnable person who will represent only them and none other of voters in their district/state? President Bush is the best friend in public office that pro lifers have and he should get thanks, appreciation, and support from all of us.
