Thanks, alfa....really great pictures. I was a volunteer some years back. We rarely fought wildfires, but we responded to a request really close to town. A tanker made a pass directly over us and radioed to the guys in charge to get us all on the ground, in a certain position before they dropped their load of orange retardant. WOW!

Hiya Meg...any critters running about? We have the cutest bunch of ground squirrels hanging around right now. They are just precious!

I joined a volunteer department a bunch of years back in California, and when I came to Alaska I was on the volunteer department on the north slope. My first fire was in February and the temp was 10 below. Talk about shocking!! Everything froze including me. Before I joined in sunny California, I had my first experience with fire sirens....where I had come from, that was what the air raid sirens sounded like. Talk about spooked!! One firefighter at a time we eventually all got personal pagers.

lol, thanks for the soup! I never get sick so it's been awful! My husband has bronchitis too, his antibiotic doesn't seem to be working at all, he's been sick since 7/14. Time for a return visit to the doc.

Smart man...that's too long to be sick with bronchitis.

Wow, 10 below, brrrr. The first fire scene I was on with the ladies aux. was in winter, around 10 above, and my teeth would not stop chattering, then my whole body was chattering. Most of the other ladies were fine, they had more meat on them than me! Couldn't imagine below zero temps.

My inlaws had a siren right by their house, their one dog would howl along with the siren!

My husband WAS the fire call once, 7 yrs. ago. He was in a head-on collision. My then 16 yr. old son rode to the scene on his bike to make sure it wasn't his girlfriend's mother who had just left, only to find it was his father. When I got to the scene, despite the shock and horror (hubby was stuck in his car with live wires across it) I was at ease seeing all his fellow firefighters right there taking care of him. They, and you, are an amazing bunch of people!
