South Carolina: An Evening Honoring Rudy Giuliani
South Carolina Headlines ^ | 8/2/06

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) - The SCGOP today announced "An Evening Honoring 'America's mayor,' Rudy Giuliani."  The South Carolina Republican Party will join House Speaker Bobby Harrell in hosting a reception honoring former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Wednesday, August 16 in Charleston.  The event will be held at Hibernian Hall from 7:30-9:00 p.m. to benefit the South Carolina Republican Party.

"We are excited and honored to have Mayor Giuliani visit South Carolina.  His steady leadership during crises and his record of accomplishment truly make him 'America's Mayor.'  He is an exceptional individual and I am proud to call him a fellow Republican," said Katon Dawson, South Carolina Republican Party Chairman.

Giuliani was elected in 1993 as the 107th Mayor of New York City.  As a Republican, his 1993 campaign focused on quality of life issues, crime reduction, economic development, and welfare reform.  Giuliani was reelected in 1997 by a wide margin.

As Mayor, Rudy Giuliani returned accountability to City government and improved the quality of life for all New Yorkers.  Under his leadership, overall crime fell 57% and murder was reduced 65%. Giuliani has enacted a record of over $2.5 billion in tax reductions and restored fiscal discipline to New York City turning a $2.3 billion dollar deficit into a multi-billion dollar surplus.  In 2001, Giuliani was named Time Magazine's Person of the Year for his leadership on and after the attacks on America on September 11th.

"...only cops should have guns."

That would be a "deal-breaker" for me. I can squint, cross my finger, cross my legs, but there are a few "smell test" items that change me from a supporter/campaigner/contributer, to a day-of-voting pulling the lever for the one that stinks the least. A gun-grabber sinks it for me, JMO.

No pro choicer has ever won the GOP nod. That sitting senator thing is a moot point, if the other opponent is a senator than someone wins.

REmember, of the senators who ran, all were clearly poor candidates. Goldwater was a good candidate, but he was never going to win against LBJ given JFK's assasination. Mcgovern was a complete leftist kook. Bob Dole was a tired old rino who compromised on everything and wanted to get along too much with democrats. John Kerry was a horrible candidate who flip flopped left and right.

George Allen is a strong candidate who can win, the others could not.

Thats becuase you are clearly clueless. Look at rudy's record, nobody is going to defend him as being a pro gun control candidate. Look up his speech in florida. Look up his overwhelming support of bill clinton's gun policies.

For the last time RUDY DID NOT LEAVE New york with a surplus. He left it with a 2 billion dollar deficit. You are cutting and pasting a bunch of bs! Look it up. Government grew under him, city employees grew under him, the debt was the highest in the country under him. HE IS NO fiscal conservative. Read what i wrote.

"No pro choicer has ever won the GOP nod"

And no sitting US Senator has won the presidency since 1960 either.
For very good reason.
And as at now things don't look good for your Allen.
Rudy easily clobbers him.

Again, so did the conservative US Senators and President Bush, and they still kept getting elected.
You don't have a point.

That's because I probably know Rudy more than you do, lived under his administration, and met the guy.
Might also have something to do with not predicting hypothetical laws any politician will or will not sign into law, even before he has declared his intentions to run, let alone declared what his platform will be.

"Many of us Red staters, like myself that have lived in blue states ( I lived in Maryland for 8 years) came to understand what high taxes and bloodsucking socialists can do to a good state."

Maryland is a breeding ground for conservatives.

You are dreaming, in a head to head match in a republican primary allen would easily clobber rudy. The only way rudy has a prayer is if the field is very crowded. No moderate has ever won the GOP nod. This no senator has every won is silly because it depends on the candididate, not the fact that the candidate is a senator. Allen is a strong candidate, dole and kerry were not. Also allen was a governor proving he has executive experience. Remember, before Bush 41 won the presidency, no VP had won in over 100+ years. Statistics are just that, there an indicator of the past, not necessarily an indicator of things to come. You rudy fans are pathetic if thats your main attack against allen.

Again, so did the conservative US Senators and President Bush, and they still kept getting elected. You don't have a point.

My POINT is that you rudy fans run around claiming yea, rudy is a social liberal but at least he's a fiscal conservative. He is not, rudy looses out on all fronts, he has never proven himself to be a fiscal conservative, a social conservative, all we have is his supposed fact that he'd be strong on the war on terror. Thats it, and that's not enough for us to give him the presidency.

That's because I probably know Rudy more than you do, lived under his administration, and met the guy. Might also have something to do with not predicting hypothetical laws any politician will or will not sign into law, even before he has declared his intentions to run, let alone declared what his platform will be.

You just lost all credibility if you think rudy isn't anti gun and wouldn't sign anti gun legislation. He has in the past he will in the future. He can't relegate it to the states, plenty of gun laws come up for the president to sign. The assault weapons ban. The DC gun ban. Allen's new CCW law. Do you think rudy would sign those? Probably not given his prior statements and prior acts.

I'm sick of you moderates trying to shove rudy down our throats saying that only rudy can win, we're sick of this game, try it on some other site more receptive to you. Just don't bother on a site dedicated to advancing conservatism.

"You are dreaming"

You will find it's you that's living in cloud cuckooland.
I repeat:

No sitting US Senator has won the presidency since 1960.

That just happens to be FACT, something that you appear to be short of.

Dream on.
Allen is not even on the same planet, in any head to head with Rudy for 2008, so far.
Let me know when Allen appears on the radar screen will you? (Hint: I won't hold by breadth if I werwe you).

My point is, Allen is as much part of the fiscal irresponsibility n Washington as anyone else.
He is not exactly in a position to throw stones is he?

You have never had any credibility to start off with.
So ain't got nuthin' to lose.
I repeat, you are not in a position to make any predictions about what laws will or won't pass, under the presidency of a guy that hasn't even declared his intention to run, let alone what his platform will be like.
All that will come out during the primaries, if he does decide to run.

There were quite a few regular polls at Hugh Hewitt a few months back, and Rudy easily took out Allen.

Hugh Hewitt and his readers are not conservative. Moderate at best.

Hah!
And you get to decide who is and isn't conservative do you?
In any case, they are Republican, and they vote in the primaries.
Thats what matters.
