Could Putin be culprit in Bush open-mic gaffe?
Seattle Times ^ | July 25, 2006

Was the old KGB master at it again?

A British television station says it has identified the person responsible for that open-microphone incident that caught an unvarnished President Bush at the closing G-8 summit lunch in St. Petersburg.

The culprit? Shockingly enough, they blame Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This was the luncheon where Bush, chomping on a piece of bread, issued an expletive, went on about long flights, bashed U.N. chief Kofi Annan and repeatedly interrupted his buddy, British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The footage on Britain's Channel 4 shows Blair finally spotting and turning off the "telltale red light," and then the film cuts to Putin, grinning about something. A British reporter asked a Putin spokesman about this, but the spokesman insisted the broadcast was "an accident."

AS if he said something we already didn't know. Putin, the small man complex guy, did everyone a favor.

Why would I consider the open mike thing a gaffe?

The proof is that "he was grinning about something." Mighty weak.

Yep. I, for one, am VERY glad to learn that the President really feels that way about Hezbollah, despite the diplomatic-speak he is forced to use when in public. Makes me respect him all the more.

Big deal. The open mike gaff is small potatoes. Putin is ex-KGB. By definition, he operates on a hidden agenda. He may even exist in another dimension entirely. Putin helped smuggle Saddam's WMD to Syria just before we invaded Iraq. Most of these weapons are now hidden near Damascus. Some are reportedly buried in Lebanon. Our failure to find the WMD are the key to all of Bush's problems. And caused the Democrats to coin the popular phrase, "Bush lied and people died." Personally, I hope the Israelis find them in the Bekkaa Valley. Hope they show them on live television. Check my FR page for important links on Saddam's WMD if you are interested.

It's the chomping on a piece of bread that peeves me off. It shoulda been beef jerky or steak, stop the carbos Mr. President, the rest is OK!

My only concern with the "open mike" was that Bush could have been overheard making a much stronger statement, such as "if those Islamo-fascist scumbags don't toe the line RIGHT NOW it's time to go Roman on their asses!"

I'm really starting to think we've got to look at the bastions of Islamo-fascism the way Cato looked at Carthage, an abomination to be destroyed, nothing less.

Syria delenda est
Iran delenda est

...... had enough yet, you medieval fascist fanatics???

Whoever did it, Bush should thank him.

It gave us a chance to see that Bush's instincts are in the right place.

Just what part of FORMER K.G.B. COLONEL Putin do people not understand? Once a jackal, always a jackal.

Good thing this KGB dirty trick backfired in Dubya's favor.

Absolutely right. Imagine what we might have heard if the same thing had happened to Clinton.
