The author neglects to mention that we wouldn't need so man y immigrants if abortions were still illegal.

Immigrants have traditionally played an important role in the U.S. economy and will be even more important in the future. True enough -- but we're discussing criminals not immigrants.

They wouldn't be here without the welfare state we offer.

Immigrants have traditionally played an important role in the U.S. economy and will be even more important in the future. All the more reason for them to HURRY BACK, file the required paperwork, and go about it the proper way, just as our forefathers did.

Americans are not the most law abiding people. Americans have even been known to venerate lawbreakers. Mommy! Bobby kicked me under the table!...

Millions of us ignored the 55 mph speed limit because we believed it was a bad law. But how many of us think the immigration laws are bad? I offer that up to 80% of Americans would support enforcement TO THE LETTER of laws that criminalized and deported those here illegally.

Don't change the title of the article. I was about to lambaste the author for the stupid title (It's AMERICA, NOT AMERICAN), but it turns out it's the poster.

It's like listening to the south's slavery arguments in the 1850s. Gloom, gloom, doom, "economy will collapse if we can't pay people $5 a day" blah, blah, blah.

Relying on traveling harvest crews allows farmers to harvest their wheat without having to raise the money to purchase their own harvest equipment which can cost more than many peoples homes.. And Juan is sneaking across the border with a $200,000 combine?
This is simply a matter of employers wanting to pay well below market rates for labor. Taxes and welfare programs then support that cheap labor. I get my head of lettuce 10 cents cheaper but have to pay more for local, state and federal taxes. It doesn't seem like such a bargain any more.

There is something wrong with an immigration law that allows people to enter the country legally to learn how to kill Americans by flying planes into buildingsDude, six of the 9/11 hijackers had overstayed their visas. Others got waivers they should not have.
So the real point is, we need to strictly enforce our immigration laws. Not get rid of them.

Illegal Immigrants = Slaves
Lets face it. The people that want to hire illegal immigrants are the same type of people who apologized for slavery or would have used Jews from concentration camps in Germany. No difference.

We need illegal immigrants?
We probably also "need" counterfeit money, too, according to this logic.
If you have counterfeit money, you can pay ALL your bills.
It is still illegal.

Were they to be removed there would be no way to replace them because we don't have enough "warm bodies" avialable. Removing them from the American economy would cause a bigger economic disaster than any terrorist attack What a crazy argument! We could outsource tens of millions of jobs to India/China and not notice it one bit. I mean we don't give citizenship and benefits to Chinese and Indian workers who took our outsourced jobs.
