Fears of war in Somalia grow-(all out war not just your daily war)

Fears of an "all-out war" in the Horn of Africa rose Friday with the news that Ethiopian troops are moving closer to Somalia's captial, Mogadishu, which is controlled by Islamist militants. Reuters reports there are conflciting reports about what is happening.

Ethiopian soldiers were moving beyond the provincial seat of the interim Somali government in Baidoa to the towns of Buur Hakaba and Baledogle, various local residents said. Addis Ababa denies it has soldiers there, while the Somali government, which has little authority beyond Baidoa, said people were confusing its militia because they were wearing uniforms donated from Ethiopia.

Somalia's been a failed state for what? 300,000,000 years now?

Perhaps it's time for someone else to rule the land... Like someone who can actually form a working government.

The Ethiopian army is fairly well equipped and professional. Ethiopia is primarily a Christian nation and they don't want a Taliban-style government next door. They better take care of the muslims now or they will surely have to fight them later after the radicals have an opportunity to arm and train them.

Ethiopia was also the only area not overrun by Muslim Empire of old.

Ethiopia could, but they probably do not want it. It is a poor land, and overrun with physco Islama-nazis. Ethiopia probably just wants to put a non-terrorist govenrmenmt in power. If they want it, they they can have it and good riddance. But most countries would not annex Somalia even if you paid them. I am glad somebody besides us is going into clear out these "Islamic courts union" terrorists. About time more countries took up the fight against terror.

They don't need our permission. But it would be a great way to become a maritime nation again since it lost it's coastline when Eritrea was formed.

I'm with you. Let the Ethiopians clean up the vipers nest. I hope they can. Those Muslims fight very dirty and having it taken care of locally is much preferable to them whining to the UN to come in and help (the useless fools) or expecting the US once again to save the day for everybody.

Well no one in the clinton presidency were thinking when he sent troops there. He didn't want to show disproportionate strength. Our marines died due to his lack of being a man.

Just turn a blind eye to a Rwandan or Sudan-style 'cleansing' of Somalia... then repopulate with Ethopians.

Problem solved. And the UN won't care any more than they did about Rwanda or the Sudan.
