79 in Iowa was nothing like 89 in Iowa. My room mate drove 45 miles down a 2 lane highway(yes, 2 lane highway) from Hampton, Iowa to Waterloo, Iowa. We wanted to get home in time to go to church that night.

The snow was falling so thick that we could not see clearly past the front of the car. We stayed on the road by using the flashers of everyone who went into the ditches on either side like a airliner on a runway.

Thank God I was in Puget Sound by then...I remember even as a kid hating the COLD...snow was all right (until I had to drive in it), but I hate cold. You can cool off when you're hot (in a pool or AC), but when you're cold, there's not clothing in the world that adequately warms me.
