Heart-rending images of small children being lifted across a fence. Outraged American/Lebanese evacuees describing indiscriminate Israeli bombing. A Lebanese man with blood on his shirt after his brother was killed by an Israeli bomb. And the only two reporters on the scene reporting from Beirut. That was the way the 'Today' largely saw fit to cover the Middle East conflict this morning.
While none of the words or images are necessarily inaccurate [and we were treated to one evacuee heartily thanking Pres. Bush], they utterly fail to tell the whole story. Yes, Israel is militarily superior to its immediate neighbors. So it is easy to portray it as the bully in this fight. But let's look at the larger picture - Israel, a small strip of land, with relatively few people or natural resources, surrounded by hundreds of millions of largely Muslim Arabs in more than a dozen states. Have a look at the map. Israel is a barely discernible dot in the Muslim sea. And just as it is geographically dwarfed so too is it overwhelmed when it comes to natural resources - oil above all - compared to its neighbors.
Even more importantly is the question of attitude. As a poster on my NewsBusters item of last evening reported, Bill O'Reilly recently framed things this way:
"Tomorrow, if the terrorists stopped killing and lay down their arms, the violence in the Middle East and in Iraq, for that matter, will stop. Tomorrow, if Israel throws all of its weapons in to the Mediterranean Sea, there will be another Holocaust." [Hat tip to first person providing exact cite.]
Too true. Yet the MSM inevitably emphasize the suffering of others at the hands of Israel, generally ignoring the fact that Israel perpetually stands between one defeat and extinction.

Sure. That's why Israel dropped hundreds of thousands of leaflets advising people to stay clear of "these areas".

Actually I can't prevent myself. That's why I've erected in front of my TV one of those chicken-wire screens like at the road house in the Blues Brothers ;-)
And just think: If Hezbolla hadn't, without provocation, rained missiles down on Israel for years and then captured two soldiers to be held as hostages, none of these things would be happening.
Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?
Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania?
Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?
And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was "desecrated" when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet? Well, I don't. I don't care at all.
I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.
I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia.
I'll care when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi tells the world he is sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.
I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.
I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.
I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.
In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.
When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured that I don't care.
When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank that I don't care.
When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts that I don't care.
And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled "Koran" and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and ---- you guessed it I don't care ! ! ! ! !

I can't stomach more than a few seconds of the Today show. I watch some of the local news and weather prior to the show, and that's it.

This anti-Israel coverage is wearing so thin with me. I just want to smack all the newscasters and the little gremlins who write their copy upside their collective heads.

Yesterday on Bill Bennett's radio show .. a caller made a comment that Israel has been dropping leaflets to warn people before an attack .. but that you never see a suicide bomber pinning a note to his shirt before the terrorists attack
