One of the last things Yammamoto ever saw ... The National Socialists weren't too fond of it, either. Well - my granddad shot down two with a Fw 190 D-9. Anyway you Americans won the war...
Thank God this BS is history.
Greetings from Lake Constance / Germany
P.S. The most famous pilot of a P-38 was a Frenchman: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

WIth all due respect, there is no way some french author, who flew the reconnaissance version, holds a candle to the "Ace of Aces" Richard Bong.

He was famous for his writing skills and his realistic view of aviation, not his flying skills or accomplishments.

Yammamoto was litterally shot down in a tranport plane in the South Pacific by P38's. Hence his comment about the last thing Yammamoto ever saw.

"Well - my granddad shot down two with a Fw 190 D-9. Anyway you Americans won the war... 190 was awesome in all configurations - D-9 was last of the mod's using Jumo in-lines and was 'arguably' best of the series.

Only on your side of the pond. Here, even the nitpickers consider him an author and poet - then a pilot.
