UPDATE: Gerry Daly of RedState e-mails that I'm being unfair to Free Republic, which does moderate and delete inappropriate material. Its guidelines include : "Free Republic reserves the right to remove any postings that are considered inappropriate. Examples of inappropriate posts are those that are off-subject or contain advertising, pornography, obscene material, racist material, bigotry, Nazi (or other hate group) material, materials promoting violence, threats or illegal acts, etc." Couldn't find anything comparable at tpmcafe or DailyKos.

Some of what is attributed to freeper posting are posted by quickly zotted trolls who are NOT freepers. I've seen perfectly awful things quoted elsewhere that came from someone who was here about half an hour (if that) and their posts removed or ridiculed in a zot thread. I think that in some cases, they come here solely for that purpose--they post something ugly just so they can claim freepers write that kind of stuff all the time.

Podhoretz was trying to defend FR

Podhoretz posted a gratuitous and unsubstantiated slam on FR because he is no friend of FR. He got called on it and so he posted an update containing someone else's lame defense of FR. "JPod" blows.

There are plenty of nutjobs around here as well, and I think they are starting to outnumber the smart ones. Check out this thread for one example of a heapin' dose of crazy. There was a better example (the one linked in comment #32), but it got pulled due to many FReepers calling for violence against the New York Times and the photographer (whose name and address were posted).
