The same Europeans that today are chanting "George W is Hitler's evil twin" were chanting "Reagan's gonna kill us all" 20 years ago.
These Europeans don't understand how much they owe to Mr Reagan...and Mrs Thacher....and John Paul II.
My gut tells me they'll never know.

wow..way to remind me of my first vote..I got goosebumps reading that..and wait..it is a rare event when three future Presidents were on the same stage..Ronald Reagan..Elder Bush..and you can see Elder Bush introducing his oldest son..George W. Bush to Ronald Reagan..a great moment..

"A battle is always raging for the soul of American conservatism. It is a battle between those who would find a familiar place to hunker down, and those who would risk engagement with ideas and the world." "There have always been those who would reduce the conservative impulse to something narrow and mean and afraid an exclusive little club restricted to Our Kind of People, rather than a great, open, embracing faith."
"The great political achievement of Ronald Reagan was to transform a cozy club into a populist movement, and his example remains instructive. Much like Lincoln before him, The Great Communicator was willing to accept the know-nothings' votes, but he drew the line at substituting their prejudices for his principles."

Such a man this country will not see for a long time, sadly. He had an ability to read people and situations, combined with his staunch patriotism and dedication to America. Truly a 100 year man.
I regret what he is seeing when he looks at Washington now. Such a tragic site, compared to the leadership and unquestionable results for America and its people that he provided.

Thanks for the memories....I was a former 14 year old boy who watched this live many years back... And who voted the first time (proudly) for Reagan's reelection in 1984...
I miss his great leadership!

I could listen to Reagan speeches all day. Never been able to sit through a Bush speech. Reagan had incredible vision and amazing insight into issues and was able to articulate those better than anyone ever.

This speech along with the others that followed expelled the Democratic demon with in me.
Thanks Mr. Reagan, wish you were here...

Excellent post. Many need to be reminded from time to time exactly what our greatest President stood for.

I downloaded the MP3's of 8 or 9 of the Gipper's speeches and put them on my ipod. I played the 1980 RNC speech the other day and the British Parliament speech yesterday. The speech to the British Parliament was the speech in which the Gipper foretold the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was a wonderful speech and is still moving today.
