I just found this information in a news report:
"It's very encouraging that she went home the same day and, hopefully, it means she has an excellent prognosis for a full recovery," said Dr. Andrew Berchuck, chief of the obstetrics and gynecology department at the Duke University School of Medicine.
Berchuck, who was not involved in Harris' care, said it would be "very unusual" for a patient who underwent Harris' type of surgery to be released the same day if doctors believed she had cancer.
Harris' office had previously described the surgery as preventive and a "minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical procedure."
A typical procedure involves the removal of the ovary and fallopian tube, Berchuck said. If the growth appears smooth, a preliminary examination could immediately give doctors reasonable confidence that it is benign and a final biopsy could be completed in four to seven days.
