July 16, 2006 -- JERUSALEM - Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah strongholds pounded central Beirut yesterday as terrorist rockets continued to be fired back across the border - and Iranian involvement was exposed in the attack on an Israeli warship. Israeli officials charged that elite Iranian troops operating in Lebanon were involved in the Hezbollah offensive, and were responsible for firing an Iranian-made, radar-guided C802 missile - not the unmanned bomb-laden drone originally reported - that struck the warship on Friday, killing four sailors.

"There are Iranian officers belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard among Hezbollah and they operated the missile," said Israeli Vice Prime Minister and elder statesman Shimon Peres.

The only restraint Israel should show is the restraints on the terrorist as they are lined up in front of a firing squad.

I have only seen one article that Israel had released some special ops to specifically take out Nasrallah. I hope this is true. Kill the enemy by cutting off its head. Not beheading him, but simply killing him as an example of what happens when you kidnap regular army troops of Israel.

We know today that a very powerful group of German Generals were prepared to overthrow Hitler when the French responded with their military to the reoccupation. They planned to arrest Hitler and put him on trial.

No, not yet. Syria and Iran have (foolishly, IMO) shown their intentions to back Lebanon. Muslim machismo dictates that they follow through with their threats, but they know that the US will stomp their @sses into the ground if they make a move towards Israel. The US can't join the fray until they make a move, otherwise we're seen as the aggressor. It all adds up to Israel stomping the crap out of Hezbollah and Hamas while Syria and Iran watch in frustration.

Actually, it does not. The Saudis have criticized Hezbollah.

This conflict has made something clear - there are two types of nations in the Middle East - those who harbor and promote Islamist extremists, and those who are the targets of such. In the past, countries such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt would have jumped on the anti-Israeli bandwagon. Now, they condemn Hezbollah. They have no desire for the extremists to have a victory, even if it is against Israel, because they know that would embolden the terrorists they are also fighting.

The Saudis may be against the extremists controlled by Shite Iran, Hezbollah.

But they are very much for the extremists that are their allies, Hamas.

Their ideology is different. Their aims identical.

Were I in charge of Israel, I'd sent a cruise missile laden sub into the Persian Gulf, unload at one or more Iranian naval bases, and then turn around and go home. I'd flat out deny that any of my people took part, just like Iran has denied having it Revolutionary Guards in Lebanon helping Hezbollah. Tit for tat (though hitting them far harder than Israel was hit by that one missile) - let the Persians know that their boasts are empty and that Israel can strike when and where it wants.

President Bush needs to take advantage of this opportunity instead of repeating "restraint" while not tens or dozens but hundreds of rockets land on Israel.

Where are the condemnations from the "good" Iraqi people against the attacks against Israel. Where are the million man moslem marches against the terrorist who misuse the "religion of peace"?
