As much as I generally agree with the author, the "US must take the lead" thing is getting tiresome.
I realize that most will disagree, but through all this, over the past twenty-five years or so, only one thing has shown any hope of ending the march of Islam.
Islam is an idea! Ideas cannot be killed. But the host mind that harbors it can. Islam as a cause is prepared for a long, drawn-out struggle because time is their primary ally. The longer we talk, posture and wring our hands, the further Islam will advance. While we cry over the poor civilians caught in the crossfire of war the Islamics are busily positioning themselves behind even more civilians.
After WWII we were disgusted by the scenes from the death camps of both Europe and Asia and we consoled ourselves by claiming 'we weren't like that.' Even now, we call those who behead our people "barbarians," and they are. But if we continue to let our actions and reactions be limited by our emotions the barbarians will win.
I rarely swear. I'm not particularly religious or anything like that but I pride myself on being able to find better words to express myself than cheap oaths. But when I served in the Navy I found myself in charge of groups of men who did swear. I quickly found that they understood me better when I spoke "their" language.
When dealing with barbarians we must speak their language or risk a long, drawn-out conflict that only they can win. We have to be just as ruthless as they and while it is unrealistic to believe we can eliminate the idea of Islam, we must reduce the number of 'host minds' below the critical point where they can cause problems such as we are experiencing now.
Go ahead folks, I've got my Nomex underwear on, but before you light up the flamethrowers, offer another solution that won't end up with most non-Islamic civilization dead.
