I don't believe Israel is planning to do anything in a prolonged manner. I think that they are well aware that this is their chance to get it done once and for all and eliminate the threat.

They have already done the hard part and engaged, now they just have to stay engaged until finished...

Depends on the definition of "once and for all". To me, that would include Syria for starts. And I don't the Israeli's will go there.
