You'll take notice that not a WORD is being said about Hez hitting an Egyptian ship, or anything about Israeli's rescuing Egyptians....

Dr McKinley said Pine Gap's functions meant Australia was already involved in the conflict in an indirect way.

"What Australia will be receiving is intelligence, part of which is directed through Pine Gap," he said.

"So Australia is already involved, and there is a long history of ... Australia providing assistance to Israel through these euphemistically termed 'joint installations'."

Am listening to a live radio feed in Israel, in English....young people comparing the events to the Old Testament or Torah...

Not sure if it is live...but they said the one Arab member of the Knessett bragged about advising Hamas to capture a soldier in order to set up a prisoner exchange.

I remember listening to Arutz Shevah during the forced evacuations last year.....

I noticed that right off! They say that Israel "claims" that a "civilian" ship was hit.

I have a hunch it is, too.

We -- and Israel -- are still dealing with an enemy of, well, metamorphic (igneous?) intelligence

They have a whole different definition of "Rock On."

I had forgotten about this. Good point. It gets very messy, very fast."

"Messy" is one way of putting it, "dirty" and "hot" also come to mind.

We've covered military isues, on diplomatic and world opinion issues, I think by Sunday or Monday, most who count will have realized the potential here, and will be looking to put Israel back in the cage, in hopes of staving off disaster. You'll see Libs, Muslims, and everyone who uses oil out in the streets making big noise.

Israel won't do any of that in a hurry, if at all. If they do, and if Iran is playing us all for suckers, pulling Israel back actually works to our benefit, no opportunity to slice into their right flank from the Golan. It puts more of the IDF under any potential plume, however, does nothing to stave off future maneuver by Iran and Syria, and opens Israel to more abuse at the hands of the H twins.

However, I'd rather see Israel's hands tied for now, than I would see Iran and Syria get drawn in and react as if they planned this when they didn't.

I'd much rather deal with each of those two on our schedule, seperately, and then let Israel have the leftovers afterwards, if there are any still left worth attacking, so a clamor for an Israeli pullback is a wash for me.

In the words of the old bull to the young bull, "No, lets walk down, and do them all".

I remember that, too. And I remember WHEN I heard it. It was after the mosque bombing in Iraq that WaPo claimed killed 3,000 Iraqis. "This is Civil War" the headlines all cried. As we all know, the numbers were largely inflated.

I remember Col. Hunt was on John Gibson's radio show saying, "Yep, 3000. This IS civil war." I remember yelling at my radio that he was wrong. (I seem to yell at inanimate objects in my house a lot lately!) It was right after that that I heard about Col Hunt working as Hillary's military advisor. I read it on a thread--perhaps it was one of those civil war threads? But I keep thinking that I heard it outside of FR as well.

It all made sense. He had, of late, become increasingly negative sounding about the Iraq conflict.

Was it just a rumor? I certainly hope so. I will do some checking, too. After I get some sleep, of course.

Lebanon Daily Star

BEIRUT: "Israeli attacks have been barbaric. We have one killed for every two wounded," Health Minister Mohammad Khalifeh told a press conference Friday, the death toll mounting even as he spoke.

As the sun set over Beirut, the ground trembled from repeated Israeli strikes against the capital's Southern suburbs, and by 8 p.m. the total number of deaths had reached at least 73 as Israel continued its onslaught.

The minister assured citizens that hospitals in the South were fully equipped and ready to take on more patients.

"There are more than 2,000 beds in hospitals located in the South, and we have only 50 cases now," he said as medics and soldiers attempted to transfer supplies via the Litani River to the rest of the villages.

Two of the victims of Israel's night raids on the Dahiyeh were Syrian workers who were killed when the concrete slab under which they were sleeping crashed down on them. Four other civilians were killed when an Israeli missile missed its intended target, Hizbullah's Al-Nour radio station, striking instead a residential apartment building in Haret Hreik.

Ali Assi, director of MP Marwan Fares' office, was killed when Israel took out the bridge leading from the Dahiyeh to Rafik Hariri International Airport.

No additional information was released concerning a reported fatality in the Southern town of Bint Jbeil.

In Yater, five members of the Swiden family, including a 13-year-old boy, were killed when their home was hit.

Another woman was killed when Israeli fire hit an ambulance crossing a bridge over the Zahrani River, near Sidon, bringing Friday's fatalities to at least nine. Three paramedics were also wounded, one of whom, Hassan Ali Jbeili, lost both feet in the explosion. Two Civil Defense personnel, Kassam Karhani and Hassan Jbeili, were also wounded while trying to rescue casualties from the bridge.
http://www.dailystar.com.lb

Wassim Khalil, 29, one of over 40 people wounded in the Dahiyeh, recounted how he was showered with glass when an Israeli strike fell next to his friend's home in Sfeir around 3:30 a.m.

"I was fast asleep and I heard a noisy, loud whistle and then the blast and I felt this pressure lift me off the bed and throw me onto the floor," he said. "That's when I felt the glass and the door frame falling on my legs and I couldn't move - I was stuck."

Khalil, who sustained deep cuts on his legs, said he and his friends waited 20 minutes for the attack to stop before neighbors helped him to a car and took him to Mount Lebanon hospital.

"There were some people trying to take cover at the gate of the building," Khalil recalled. "When I arrived at the emergency room I received first aid, but they called for a specialist in case of cut nerves or something and the doctor showed up four hours later."

Khalil said he was satisfied overall with the aid he received, but was annoyed when hospital officials told him he needed to pay for the cost of the treatment, despite statements from the Health Ministry that care would be free.

"They tried to charge us, but my friend's sister is a doctor and she argued with them and reminded them of the emergency laws issued by the Health Ministry. Then they asked us to wait for the manager of the hospital, but when he wasn't there by 8:30 a.m. we left," he said.

In the Bekaa, Israeli warplanes carried out raids at 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m, slightly wounding Tony Moussaad when they struck the offices of NTV, LBC, and Econet in Kfar Zebd, Zahle. A young girl identified as Lameta Ghassan Haddad sustained wounds to her eye during the second raid. She underwent surgery at the Lebanese-French Hospital in Zahle. - Additional reporting by Mohammed Zaatari, with agencies

From the MT Shortwave Blog

Egypt and Iran have been added to the Hot Spot DXing list. Both are countries to watch during this continued conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israel destroyed Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut today, and tightened it's seal on Lebanon, blasting it's air and road links to the outside world to punish the guerrilla group-and with it the country, for the capture of two Israeli soldiers.Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, repeated a threat to hit the coastal city of Haifa and other towns farther south. "We will reach Haifa, and believe me, even beyond Haifa." Hundreds of people poured into the Gaza strip from Egypt on Friday after Palestinians blew a hole in the border seperating the two places, an Associated Press reporter said at the scene. The border has largely been closed since June 25 when Palestinians militants carried out a cross-border raid on a military outpost, kiling two Israeli soldiers and capturing one. Hundreds of people have been stranded on the Egyptian side of the border, unable to get to their homes in Gaza. With Syria, and Iran in full support of the Hezbollah, tensions will likely increase, and both could have a larger role should war be declared. The Prime Minister of Israel said today that Israel will not hault it's offensive in Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed.
Besides the current Kol Israel schedule, I have added Israel's Galei Tzahal (Israel Defence Forces Radio). The station is an Israeli nation-wide radio network owned by the Israel Defence Forces. The station broadcast on AM, FM and shortwave. The shortwave programming may be heard as:
