"One set of wild cards you overlooked are the carrier task forces some where in the
Pacific conducting 'exercises'. They could be in the Persian Gulf area relatively quickly to support the
carrier currently there. I don't think it was a coincidence naval exercises of this size were planned for this
summer."

I agree, it wasn't a coincidence, NK seemed to want our Aegis Block III/IV assets out of the ME. To the best of my knowlege, they succeeded.

Israel says Lebanon will hide WMDs for Iran

RAW STORY
Published: Friday July 14, 2006

| Email This

In remarks made before the UN Security Council today, Ambassador Dan Gillerman claimed that Lebanon was willing to work with Iran to hide weapons of mass destruction.

An official statement from the delegation on the subject is expected shortly.

The Ambassador went on to point to Syria as another member of a "club" of terror-supporting nations.

A partial transcript of his remarks follow:

#

It is very important for the international community to understand that while Hezbollah executes this vicious terrorism, it is merely the finger on the bloodstained, long-reaching arms of Syria and Iran. Hezbollah, together with Hamas, Syria and Iran, comprise the world's new and ominous axis of terror, an infamous club -- infamous club, the entry fee to which is the blood of innocents and the terrorizing of the entire world.

Membership to this club requires an unfathomable capacity for evil. The president of Iran has repeatedly denied the Holocaust, while gleefully preparing the next one. Many of the long-range missiles fired into Israel in recent days were Iranian missiles, made by the same regime that is now trying to possess nuclear weapons, the same region that is funding Hezbollah to the sum of $100 million a year.

Do we dare to ask ourselves how many families in Lebanon today are being prepared to house dirty bombs and other weapons of mass destruction courtesy of Iran?

Syria, another member of this club, is a well-known protector and financier of terrorist organizations, playing host to them in its capital, Damascus. The Syrian government, which still regards Lebanon as "southern Syria," works ceaselessly to undermine all efforts towards a peaceful future in the region...

Why does Bush need to do anything? This isnt his fight, this isnt his war (if it comes to that). Why does everyone say "WHAT IS BUSH DOING?? WHERE IS HE!".. On one hand leftwing idiots get mad at Bush for trying to "control the world", yet when something happends in the world that doesnt have anything to do with him.. they b*tch he isnt doing anything.... A Classic line.. I forget what X President said this but it fits how the Press and Left wing idiots look at Bush very well... It goes (bush speaking) "I could walk on water, and they would say LOOK! He cant swim!"

We lost one or two in ODS, the Princeton group IIRC, scouting for a marine landing. I am not familiar with the military POV on minesweepers, but I agree, the demand will exceed the supply if this gets bigger.

Mike Tobin doing a LIVE spot right now.

He said it is quiet in Nahariya Israel right now..but, he said that the Iranians seem to be coming closer to entering this...I think because of the Iranian weapons that are being used...

He DID say that it is usually quiet there on Saturday mornings though..

Also..he said that Israel is looking for 4 Navy or Army men that were thrown from the ship during that drone attack last night...but, they are not considered "dead"...the families have been notified...but, they haven't given up on finding them.

He also said that they thought that the ship had been towed back to Israel...but, it is still in water outside of Beirut.

Search the Sunday morning talk show thread -- not last Sunday, maybe the week before, if not it was the previous week. I remember seeing everyone talking about it -- think it may have come from Blitzer's show.

sounds like Hizbullah is trying to goad Israel and Syria into attacking one another. The Golan is largely unpopulated, with the exception of some fine winerys, Hizbullah has no real target in the golan except maybe some military installations. In any event, i'd be watching anything going off near the Syrian border right now

Not criticizing, but wondering if that's very sensitive information for the 'eyes' out there.

"Iran's Imanutjob is cagey, i doubt he thinks he is in
an all or nothing position."

You're right and I have not factored that in. If Allah will intervene anytime the future looks bleak, you can never be cornered, and will never respond as if cornered. Excellent observation. That increases the already considerable odds against any of the worst case scenarios outlined.
