...[t]he homecoming welcome swarms of flag-waving, screaming friends and family were more than Lucas had expected on his return, especially because he was one of only 15 soldiers of his company returning June 24.
It was overwhelming, he said. He thought he would just meet family at the armory in Friedens.
It looked like a concert, Lucas said. We got paraded through town.
The Headquarters Company return was an all-out celebration, complete with live country music. More than a thousand people were there on a Friday evening.
It was a good feeling, seeing all those people supporting you, Beas said...
Lucas said he doesnt answer to Murtha, but rather to Gov. Ed Rendell, who agreed to allow the state Guard to fight in Iraq.
Once (that happens), were on federal orders, he said.
I[t] doesnt really matter what Murtha wants.
And Noel said he doesnt agree with Murtha. Success in Iraq, he said, will come when the countrys army is ready.
Get them to take care of their country a little more, he said...
Show these soldiers more of us agree with them than with Murtha. Support Diana Irey (in whatever way you can) in her quest to defeat the despicable EX-Marine.
Freedom isn't free.
Did I read that the IA took over control of Baqubah? I can't find the reference now.
Please also check out these sites:
www.vets4irey.com (Just went over 750 veterans TODAY, signing up in support of Ms. Irey. Do I hear 800?!?)

A few weeks ago, I passed a very small community cemetary out in the country south of Durango, CO. There was a relatively small gathering of about 30-50 honoring the life of what appeared to be a member of the military who had fallen... but what yanked on my heart the most was a contingent of several dozen motorcyclists blocking the gate to the cemetary obviously there to prevent any liberal scum from trying to disrupt the ceremony! I noticed that several of the more surly-looking bikers wore fatigues.
God bless all of you guys and gals in the military out there, we love you and support you back here at home!!!
Coop, Happy 4th of July. Please add me to the Irey/Murtha ping list.
Thanks for the great post.
Homecoming accounts like this are heart warming and these brave warriors especially deserve them for their service to our country. They also deserve the support of all Americans and they don't receive that support from Murtha.
Help elect Diana Irey.

What's noteworthy is what this Democrat newspaper didn't report. I'll bet some of the culled responses were pretty interesting.
The question is whether the fear the relative felt for their soldiers is going to predominate in their voting decisions and get them to express a desire to pull out of Iraq, or whether the predominant soldier views expressed to them that we should finish the job will have more impact.
Sounds familiar, but I'm not sure. Maybe SV or Sandrat recall.
Thank you kindly, and the same to you and yours! You're now added. Thanks!
Don't know about Baqubah itself, but they've recently taken control of the area surrounding the city. Not that you'd know that if it was up to the MSM. Just posted an article for you:

The left, btw, is following their Vietnam era playbook. They'll be criticizing our own military more and more, but they'll also focus more and more on dissmissing, delegitimizing and undermining our allies. The later will become the focus even more when American troops do start coming home.
FReepers and other patriots must bear in mind that we will increasingly have to defend Iraqis and their patriot heros, as well as our own, against attack and dismissal from the left. The hard left wants us to lose, and they have many more "moderate" but feckless fellow travelers to help them with this campaign.
They'd prefer that "we" (America and its armed forces) lose directly; but second best, and good enough, and much more easily accomplished, is for our allies to falter and fail once they're (relatively speaking) on their own.
This is how the left engineered defeat in Vietnam. They must not be allowed to do it again.
We're already seeing this tactic, even from supposed "mainstream" politicians like Kerry, Murtha, Pelosi, Biden, and etc. Notice the relentless complaints about Iraqis failing to "stand up" and "defend their own country," as though tens of thousands had not done so already, as though they weren't already taking the brunt of the casualties.
They are trying to create hatred and distrust of our allies on the American side, and resentment and loss of morale on the side of our allies. They must not succeed.

Thanks for this, and all the other pings. Have a great 4th tonight!
Thank you. May you and yours do the same!
You're correct. The difference between Vietnam and now, however, is we have the alternate media and we're fighting back. Whether it's targeting John Kerry or Jack Murtha for defeat, organizing and sending countless care packages, standing proudly for our wounded soldiers outside of Walter Reed, sending cards and letters to troops, donating time and/or money to a plethora of charities supporting our defenders of freedom, etc.
From childhood I well remember it and yes they've been using this tactic again and again in this war.
In many districts I'd agree with you, but think in this case (PA-12) Murtha's abhorrent behavior will outweigh those emotions. He'll either attract the anti-war support, or he will totally turn off those who love America and her military. (Of course it's not that simple, but that's my two cents.) :-)
Agreed. We cannot, and must not allow this to happen again. To our shame, we kept quiet, and allowed our honorable Vietnam Vets to be disparaged and slandered.
We WILL NOT allow it again!
Thanks for the ping.
