MURTHA DOESNT NEED TO CLARIFY HE NEEDS TO APOLOGIZE
(MONONGAHELA, June 28) Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey reacting to U.S. Rep. Jack Murthas press release yesterday declaring that he was quoted out of context regarding his recent comments stating that the U.S. presence in Iraq is a greater threat to world peace than the nuclear threat posed by North Korea and Iran today released the following statement:
Yesterday, Jack Murtha said he was quoted out of context regarding his comments on the threat posed to world peace by the U.S. presence in Iraq. He also further clarified his comments, made ten days ago on Meet the Press, regarding a redeployment of U.S. forces to Okinawa.
Unfortunately, were still waiting for Mr. Murtha to clarify his comments insisting that there was a deliberate cover-up by the Marine chain of command regarding events in Haditha last November. And were still waiting for Mr. Murtha to clarify his comments declaring that U.S. Marines had killed innocent civilians in cold blood at Haditha before the NCIS investigation has been completed.
In fact, a clarification in these matters will not be enough. What Mr. Murtha needs to do is not clarify, but apologize.
On May 28, appearing on the ABC News show This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Jack Murtha was asked about the actions of Marine commanders after Haditha, So you believe there was a cover-up? Heres what he said:
No question about it There's no question about what happened. And the problem is, who covered it up? And why did they cover it up? Why did they wait so long? We don't know how far it goes. I mean, it goes right up the chain of command. Right up to General Pace. When did he know about it? Did he order the cover-up? Who ordered the cover-up?
Last Thursdays Los Angeles Times reported that Army Major General Eldon Bargewells report into whether or not there was a cover-up which has yet to be released publicly suggests there was no deliberate cover-up by senior Marine officers.
Jack Murtha was wrong when he said there was no question about it regarding a cover-up. And he was wrong to smear the men and women of our Armed Forces before the first Marine had been charged, before the first court-martial had been convened, before the first soldier had been convicted. He was wrong to act as prosecutor, judge, and jury before all the evidence was in.
Its nice to know that Mr. Murthas outrageous comment regarding the U.S. posing a greater threat to world peace than North Korea or Iran was a misquote. But when will Jack Murtha admit he was wrong and apologize to the Marines and Marine officers he smeared?

Time to unleash the investigation into how he directed $20 million in defenses dollars through his brother's lobbying firm. I think even the dumbest of the electorate know this stinks to high heaven..
