Two suicide car bombers launched a failed attack on a US military convoy in southern Afghanistan today, killing only themselves, police said.
The violence comes as more than 10,000 US-led forces hunt resurgent militants across southern Afghanistan.
Zabul provincial police chief Noor Mohammed Paktin said three men were involved in planning the suicide attack, though only two were inside the Toyota vehicle that blew up near an American convoy.
Police are searching for the third man, who is an Afghan, he said.
The attack happened just outside Zabul provinces capital of Qalat.
No civilians or coalition soldiers were wounded, said governors spokesman Ali Khail.
Paktin said police had received information that the men wanted to commit a terrorist act.
A purported Taliban commander, Mullah Masum, telephoned The Associated Press to claim responsibility, but mentioned only one attacker.
Masum promised there would be more attacks in the future, adding: We will pursue suicide attacks against coalition forces.
Thanks, you've made my day!
No virgins for them!
Oh... wait...
Sorry. [giggle]
Heh, heh, heh.
Hameed: "Wally, did you say push THIS button?"
Walleed: "No,little buddy, not THAT button! Oh shiiiiiii..."
If you completely screw-up your suicide attack, do you still get the 72 virgins?
So these slime take the long dirt nap. It works for me.
Couldn't have happened to more deserving
The terrorists finally got something right! Good.
I think they only get ONE 72 Year Old Virgin.
Sounds like someone took a date on a bombing. Didn't tell the boss.
Jack Murtha is deeply saddened.
Perhaps they missed Bombing School that day?
Ping! Great for a laugh!
Must be part of that awesome taliban "spring offensive" that the NY Times was trumpeting last week.
The subject taught that day was "model selection."
