Actually, that's not exactly right but not that far off.
His last minute appeals are being financed by the Mexican government. It doesn't have anything directly to do with his immigration status, but the fact that he's a Mexican citizen, and that gentle and peaceful nation opposes capital punishment.
Oh well. Too bad, so sad. He should have stayed in his homeland and murdered Mexicans.
