(6/27/06 - HUNTSVILLE, TX) - US Supreme Court appeals are still pending for convicted killer Angel Maturino Resendiz -- so Texas prison officials have delayed the scheduled start time of his execution.
Officials won't proceed tonight in Huntsville until the appeals are resolved.
The death warrant remains in effect until midnight.

I don't recall any death penalty opponents taking to the streets to protest the kidnapping, torture, and murder of our troops.
But for a deranged serial killer, they find outrage.
Let's check again Friday night just to be sure.
I mean, he PROMISED and everything.
Based on recent updates to this thread, can the headline be modified to reflect the denial of appeal?
There were some in Brownsville today to meet the plane. Many wept. None protested. His wife is only 18. She's just a baby!
Heheheh. A promise IS a promise. ;) Heheheh
He was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m. CDT.
Get 'R Done
Got 'R Done
Flip 'R Over
Do 'R Again
The last minute delay added about 2 hours to his miserable life. Since it's unlike that he used them to play pinball or listen to some nice music, I doubt he enjoyed them at all.
Sometimes things work out fine, even when they look discouraging at first.
And now he's dead. Good. One more sub-human animal put out of the rest of the world's misery. He deserved to die 15 times, but this one will do. Now, he's paying the REAL Piper.
I'm glad that there are some in Texas to support the families of these 2 murdered soldiers. I just wonder if any of the anti-death penalty folks were among their ranks.
Good point. The extra two hours probably gave him time to pee himself a littel bit more. Scalia did us proud yet again. He always does.
The "Don't Mess With Texas" slogan is actually an anti-littering slogan, but it really does capture what this state is all about.
Angel messed with Texas.
There are many, many folks in the valley who support our troops.
If I ever was unfortunate enough to run into any anti-war people anywhere near the grieving family of fallen heros in the war, ESPECIALLY those two poor brave souls, I would be forced to walk up to the protesters and commit a crime. I don't think I could restrain myself.
The opponents say that they don't want one innocent man to die. They can't say he isn't innocent, so they say he is insane. Well he is INHUMAN (not subhuman, nor super human as he claims, but cruel to others) but what kind of defense is that?
Why was he permitted to roam the streets unsupervised if he was to be unaccountable for his actions?
He won't kill again. He won't tax the citizens anymore. And those who protest his death today won't bring his name up as justification for ending the death penalty.
HE'S DEAD JIM!
I think Resendiz was the most notorious name on Texas Death Row in recent times.
We're hardly done, but I'm not aware of any FBI Top 10 that remain. Texas is fairly efficient in cleaning out those cells.
Wanna murder someone? Figure out a way to lure them out of Texas before doing it.
Angel of Death has been used to describe many serial/sadistic killers. Joseph Mengle was nicknamed the Angel of Death as have been many nurses/doctors who have killed. Some claiming to be killing for mercy, others because they are psychopathic.
Probably the two best known Angels of Death are Donald Harvey and Charles Cullen.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
The funny thing is that he's assuming room temperature now, and we still don't know what the delay was based upon.
Not that it matters to anyone but legal beagles here. The important thing is that justice was served.
But I'd still like to know.
He did ask for forgiveness....and apologized to the victims family members. And he prayed. Seems he became sane at the end.
