THE MIAMI PLOT
NY Post ^ | 6/24/06 | NY Post Editorial board

Posted on 06/24/2006 2:07:00 AM PDT by Oshkalaboomboom

No one died and the plot never got off the ground, thank goodness, but America yesterday got another chilling reminder of the threat from the homegrown enemies next door.

Federal agents busted a group of al Qaeda wannabes with dreams of destroying the Sears Tower in Chicago and several federal buildings in Miami.

Much of law enforcement's success surely is due to the kinds of warrantless-surveillance programs loudly decried by Democrats and the civil-liberties crowd - including the financial-transactions monitoring that was disclosed Thursday.

But this latest plot offers a troubling glimpse of a homegrown fifth-column group on U.S. soil - whose members have no record of ties to terrorism but who suddenly are seized with a fierce desire to wage jihad against America.

The so-called Seas of David, a Black Muslim offshoot, seems at first glance like a cult of kooks with visions of bloody jihad. But then, many might have said the same about al Qaeda before 9/11.

It's also true that the group posed no real danger beyond a lot of talk. But that's only because its plot unraveled early, thanks to an informer. Members had contacted someone they believed (wrongly) was linked to Osama bin Laden. They'd asked for $50,000 in cash, terrorist training, weapons, vehicles and other supplies - after pledging an oath to al Qaeda and a promise to "kill all the devils we can."

As U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta noted: "They certainly had the will. They were searching for a way."

Chuck Colson warned years ago that radical islam was being taught in all our prisons. Of course, no one seemed to think that it was all that dangerous and it has grown and proliferated throughout the whole system. The terrorists have indoctrinated thousands of 'home grown' recruits to their ranks and now it is becoming evidenced by groups just like these.

The STATE GOVERNMENTS needs to pass new regulations for their penal systems requiring that stiff penalties be applied to the radical 'teachers' of Islam.

I know the first words out of the mouths of liberals and their counter parts (MSM), would be "Freedom of Religion" but then they would have to back off their, worn out, mantra "Separation of Church and State"

It is way past time this issue of 'home grown' terrorism be addressed.

I missed WWIII. When did it happen? Did you make a typo?? :^) (just kidding)

Seriously, the third one was the Cold War, in my estimation, and fortunately never "went hot." Got uncomfortably close-- I remember the bombers scrambling past my junior high school during the Cuban missile crisis.

I remember being taught to take cover underneath my school desk. Also, watching films in school of bomb shelters.

I missed WWIII.

AKA " The Cold War", or "The Long War". We won.

I was surprised when Today showed big pictures of all 7 of the accused this morning. I dont know what they said though since I had the sound off. ;)

Wasn't there a group of black muslims in Miami who went on a racist killing spree in the 1980s? One of the right wing websites had some details on it but I don't remember. They ended up killing or shooting quite a few white folks but then they were caught. I don't know what kind of news coverage it got at the time but today I suppose the media would be falling all over one another to make excuses for the killers.

This plot was impossible. The plotters were idiots and who knows if they ever could have pulled anything off. One curious thing is the plotters are Black and nearly all have French last names which means they are probably all or part Haitian. Or from Haitian parents. Names such as Batiste

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/custom/newsroom/chi-060623batiste,1,2917209.story?coll=chi-news-hed

A close friend of one of the defendants said Batiste's teachings came from the Moorish Science Temple of America, an early 19th-Century religion that blends Christianity, Judaism and Islam with a heavy influence on self-discipline through martial arts.

One friend described Batiste as a "Moses-like" figure who would roam the neighborhood in odd clothing, carrying a crooked wooden cane as he recruited young men.

Others said he was a martial arts devotee who sometimes wore camouflage and led his followers through late-night physical exercises.

Narcisse Batiste said he and his wife raised five of their six children on Chicago's Far South Side in the West Pullman neighborhood. Narseal Batiste attended Brother Rice High School for two years, before transferring to the Chicago Public Schools, his father said. Officials at Brother Rice could not be reached Friday evening to confirm that.

Kill my landlord, who he be?
Kill my landlord, white bourgeoizie

Watch dog bark on a hot summer night,
kill my landlord, kill my landlord,
watch dog bark, though he bite,
kill my landlord, kill my landlord,
slip in his window, break his neck,
then his house I start to wreck,
got no reason, what the heck!
kill my landlord, kill my landlord,
C-I-L-L my landlord.

As I recall, he recited it from behind the bars of his prison cell. :)

But... but.. but... I just saw on NBC that these people are harmless because they had no way of carrying out the plot. Same goes true for all that stuff we saw from Iraq. The so-called WMD stuff is totally harmless.

And we know NBC is telling the truth, right?

I remember being taught to take cover underneath my school desk. Also, watching films in school of bomb shelters.

Yep, there was a cartoon featuring some dam' turtle- wearing a helmet, for gawd's sake.

I was more than a little skeptical that my desk was equal to the Big Nuke, but then, I was always the cynic.

I think the people who think all this stuff "harmless" should volunteer to sit in a room with these "harmless" suspects and some of the "harmless" WMD's.

I don't recall the incident but it wouldn't surprise me, one bit.

BTW, you are watching Today in it's proper mode, I would only add, it much better when the video part is blacked out too.

The US lost almost 100,000 KIA in WW III. (It wasn't "Cold.")

" They'd asked for $50,000 in cash, terrorist training, weapons, vehicles and other supplies - after pledging an oath to al Qaeda and a promise to "kill all the devils we can." "

These guys are not poor misunderstood youth from the hood.

They were actively training and actively requesting funds after swearing the oath.

With all the unsolved murders in this country who's to say they haven't already been "training", in a live fire mode. I doubt the cops worry very much about the bodies they find in and around liberty city.

I watched ABC's Good Morning America yesterday, and it was absolutely hilarious when they tried to report the 'news' about this without reporting the truth.

This morning< NBC Today showed their pics and made one mention of them being "al Queda wannabes." Never described their appearance, religion, or ancestry, nor did they ever mention that might have been part of their motivation.

They were labeled "homegrown terrorists" or "all but one were American citizens" who were "anti-Federal government."

The only reason why we knew that they weren't Tim McVeigh wannabes was that they did not incessantly call them white Christians. Nor did they cite AM talk radio as fueling their fires of hate. Come to think of it, they never even used the word "hate" in the whole piece.

Can anyone tell me where else in the world, aside from the US penal system, that islam has been spread by means other than the sword?

I am disquieted by this arrest. It has some characteristics of a "thought crime" only and there was no real contact between the accused and any terrorist group.

The FBI offered $ under the guise of being foreign terrorist sympathizers. That is close to "entrapment" and, further, when we get the biographies of the accused my guess is most, if not all, have room temperature IQs.

We used to have another cult down here in MIA called the Ben Yawehs and it was lead by Yawah Ben Yawhe. Yep I know I am mispelling it, but I was wondering what happend to them after their leader was arrested for murder or conspiracy.

The mistake was NOT to rebuild the WTC towers IMMEDIATELY.

The inventory of tall buildings in America needs to increase to remind the Islamic mouth-breathers that try as they might, there efforts are futile.

New York victim/wimps have squandered psychological momentum by not restoring the towers.

Like graffiti that stands years later, the WTC destruction simply encourages attacks on the perceived finite stock of important buildings.

If you take a moron, and remove its character, ability to think, and replace its head with a concrete block, you would get an Islamic militant. Remove its courage, and you would get a Liberal.
