Weekend Talk Show *Preview* for 6/24 and 6/25/06 (not the live thread)
The main message is the Sunday Shows. Message 1 will be the Saturday Shows and message 2 will be the show guest links post. Then I'll post the ping list.
Sunday Shows for 6-25-06
ABC This Week (George Stephanopoulos)
- Meme:
- What is wrong with these Democrats? We hand them the election on a silver platter and they just screw it up!
- Bush has had two good weeks - it's time to bring out the big guns and knock that fool down a peg
- Topics:
- Iraq Withdrawal?: In a pair of exclusive Sunday interviews, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., join me to discuss the strategy of when and how to draw down U.S. troops from Iraq
- McConnell and Durbin, two of the Senate's top party leaders, will also debate the hot political topics that could tighten Republican control of Congress or topple the legislative branch in favor of the Democrats this November.
- Summers' Fall: In another Sunday exclusive, Larry Summers, outgoing president of Harvard University, appears on 'This Week' for his first television interview on his controversial reign at one of the nation's top academic institutions.
- 'Voices': This week we'll hear from ABC News's very own John Stossel. The "20/20" co-anchor and New York Times bestseller is at it again, debunking "Myths, Lies, and Downright Stupidity" in a new book that endeavours to explain "why everything you know is wrong".
- Please Note: On Sunday, June 25, "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" will be rescheduled or preempted in a number of cities due to ABC's coverage of World Cup soccer, and "This Week" will NOT air on the West coast. Please click here to find out when you can see 'This Week' in your town.
- Guests
- Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
- What has steffie got on Mitch, or what does he know he'll say that will embarrass Bush? There has to be a reason they're granting him air time.
- Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill.
- It can't be that they think Turbin Durbin can out debate Mitch? Nah, even steffie isn't that dumb... maybe...
- Larry Summers, outgoing Harvard University president
- This could go either way, but I'm leaning towards them making him out to be a troglodyte
- ROUNDTABLE:
- Newsweek's Fareed Zakaria
- The US is so last century... it's Asia's century... get out of our way...
- ABC News White House correspondent Martha Raddatz
- She broke the Zarqawi story!!! You must believe anything she says!!!
- CNN anchor Lou Dobbs
- An equal opportunity trasher of Democrats and Republicans on illegal immigration (but mostly Republicans, particularly Bush)
- VOICES SUNDAY: ABC News anchor John Stossel
- Pay no attention... it's a book promo... we'll break away to the World Cup right when he's about to say something critical
- ABC This Week comment web page
CBS Face The Nation (Bob Schieffer)
- Meme:
- What is wrong with these Democrats? We hand them the election on a silver platter and they just screw it up!

- Topics:
- Situation In Iraq
- North Korea Missile Threat
- Guests
- Sen. Richard Lugar, Chairman, Foreign Relations Committee, Republican - Indiana
- CBS is giving Luger a chance to perform his designated role, though he hasn't bashed Bush in nearly two weeks, agrees with him on Iraq (at least defeating the Dems on the pullout) so it must be immigration... or maybe North Korea?
- Sen. Barbara Boxer, Foreign Relations Committee, Democrat - California
- Kos has blessed her - she must go forth and preach the Truth of the Kos!
- Doyle McManus, Los Angeles Times, Washington Bureau Chief
- I kinda think he's embarrassed over this whole SWIFT thing, but it's not the LA Times Fault! The NY Times did it first!
- Face The Nation contact information - ftn@cbsnews.com
CNN Late Edition (Wolf Blitzer)
- Meme:
- What is wrong with these Democrats? We hand them the election on a silver platter and they just screw it up!

- Topics:
- Is the Taliban back in Afghanistan? President Hamid Karzai speaks out.
- Sens. Chuck Hagel and Joseph Biden on Iraq, Iran, North Korea, and the latest on the alleged terror plots in the United States.
- Guests
- Hamid Karzai: President of Afghanistan
- How to get coverage in the drive by media - lesson 1: bash Bush
- CNN is counting on blunting Bush's momentum from success in Iraq with Karzai's criticism of the entire WOT, particularly the loss of life in Afghanistan and the "wrong direction" the west is taking
- Sen. Joseph Biden: D-Delaware, Foreign Relations Committee ranking member
- I knew he would surface somewhere!
- Joe Biden will single handedly fix all that is wrong with Bush's foreign policy by surrendering to the UN and Korea, simultaneously! Top that if you can, John Kerry!
- Sen. Chuck Hagel: R-Nebraska, Foreign Relations Committee and Select Intelligence Committee
- How to get coverage in the drive by media - lesson 1: bash Bush
- How to get coverage in the drive by media - lesson 2: bash conservative Republicans
- Chuck Hagel has a twofer this week!
- Hagel is a big catch for CNN: he is trashing "cut and run" as a slogan that was focus group tested!
- Hussein Shahristani: Iraqi oil minister
- Did you know that Iraq has an oil ministry? I'm betting he told Wolfie that he's learned lesson 1
- Madeleine Albright: Former secretary of state
- Criticism of the Bush administration from the woman who gave us a nuclear North Korea. How appropriate!
- Henry Kissinger: Former secretary of state
- Henry's got to have something bad to say about Bush. Why else would Wolfie give him air time?
- CNN Late Edition (web page for comments)
Fox News Sunday (Chris Wallace)
- Meme:
- What is wrong with these Democrats? The drive by media hands them the election on a silver platter and they just screw it up!
- Bush has had two good weeks - it's time to bring out let the big guns have their shot at knocking him down a peg - fair and balanced and all that rot
- Topics:
- Timetable for withdrawal from Iraq? Sens. John Warner and Carl Levin weigh in
- Sen. Arlen Specter and Rep. Pete King on immigration reform deadlock
- Guests
- Sens. John Warner
- No chance John would get on any other show this week - let's see how they treat him
- Carl Levin
- Oh well, they'll let Carl trash John and won't challenge anything Carl says - "fair and balanced" and all that rot
- Sen. Arlen Specter
- Rep. Pete King
- An "opponent" of Bush on the immigration bill... or is he? Could a quid pro quo on the "cuts" to grants to New York (hey they need more than 50% for the NYC region) make him turn his back on protecting our borders? This could be an interesting appearance for ol' Pete.
- Besides, the Irish are putting pressure on him.
- Fox News Sunday contact information - FNS@foxnews.com
NBC Meet The Press (Tim Russert)
- Meme:
- Bush has had two good weeks - it's time to bring out the big guns and knock that fool down a peg
- Topics:
- The War in Iraq heats up on Capitol Hill, with the Senate defeating an amendment that called for a complete withdrawal of U.S. Troops by next year with a resounding vote of 86-13. With us, to explain his case for a withdrawal deadline, the co-sponsor of the amendment and potential 2008 presidential candidate Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI).
- how are the political differences on Iraq affecting the 2006 and 2008 election landscapes -- and particularly the potential presidential candidacies of Hillary Clinton and John Kerry? And why is 2000 Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) in such a tough race for his own Democratic Senate primary? We will have insights and analysis in our political roundtable
- Guests
- Sen. Russ Feingold, D-WI
- Kos has spoken! Feingold is the progressive standard bearer and Russert marches to the tune they play
- political roundtable
- David Broder, Washington Post
- Broder is their "right wing balance" this week - nuff said?
- Ron Brownstein, Los Angeles Times
- Brownstein's actually not that bad (as leftist journalists go), but he's going to have to defend the SWIFT story, so he's forced to Bush bash - perfect for MTP
- David Gregory, NBC News White House Correspondent
- The poster boy for BDS given more mouth foaming time - oh joy!
- Anne Kornblut, New York Times
- So nasty to Bush and company she got promoted from the Boston Globe to the New York Times - after all, they needed to replace Jayson Blair
- What would you like to ask this week's guests? (web page for submitting questions for this weeks show)
- Meet the Press mailbox (web page for comments)
This is NOT intended to be the live Sunday Morning Talk Show thread. I trust AB will do that as usual. This is strictly a preview of who will be on the main shows. The idea is to give folks a chance to muster their resources for that thread. I would particularly ask that anyone with specific knowledge or resources about the topics / guests announced for these shows post them here so that the rest of us can go into the shows with a heads up on what to look for.

THAT didn't take long, since the story just broke--Arlen must have broken a land speed record to get THAT hearing together...
I can't believe that Fox would do this, but you don't suppose that they (and Arlen) had a heads up on the NY Times story and set this up aforehand?
Nah, that's too Machivellian...
But not outside of what is likely to happen today.

More on the Jerome Armstrong (and therefore Kos) meltdown from Little Green Footballs:
Wizbang has caught the MyDD crowd going through their blog archives and removing all references to astrology, following the revelation that Kos partner Jerome Armstrong had a career as an astrologist: Jerome Armstrongs Nutroots.
Hmm. This sounds familiar.

I've been pondering the NY Times SWIFT story as an attempt to overwhelm the successes in Iraq for these shows (which is clearly what they intended). They chose this week to drop this little bombshell to try to change the news cycle and, particularly, to try to get the White House and Republicans to call for prosecution or other sanctions so that they could declare themselves the victims of "evil Bushitler." But I have a feeling that the smell of potential criminal acts by Kos and the Blogfather just a week or so after all of the lefty media "elite" and Democrat leaders kowtowed to them in Las Vegas may just make this an impossible play on their part. It will be interesting to see if they are really that stupid as to try to play the New York Times as the victim of the "fascist Bush administration bent on world domination and destruction of the free press" in the context of this crap.
They lay down with pigs they got up with not only flees, but also a few other parasites... some of them fatal...

Phsstpok...I am re-posting one of the links you had above, re: the amendment in the Defense Spending Bill that just PASSED...re: North Korea.
I find it very, very maddening that this amendment by Biden, Levin, and Reid was passed on a unanimous consent...and I haven't been able to find ANY debate between the Republicans and the dems on this...
I am really ticked off tonight, can you tell? LOL
Considering that N. Korea has been bigtime in the news this last week...and our policy there should be, IMHO, of the utmost importance to the Congress and the American peop"le..
HERE is an amendment, not debated or voted on, on the floor of the Senate, that basically says that Bush has failed in North Korea, made us MORE in danger..and MUST, according to this amendment have a NEW person in charge...and must clear all of this with the Senate.
I would think that anything this important SHOULD have been debated "in the light of day"...
I SWEAR these "unanimous consent" amendments that are just added "en bloc" to these bills are gonna get our country in big trouble...
Also, there is an amendment, that was passed the same way...by Kerry that require a summit that involves Iraq, the surrounding countries, the Arab League, the EU, the permanent members of the UN Security Council...that one didn't have a roll call vote either...(if I read my source site right)...

What I would like to know, is how it made it in the bill...where were the Reps??
Also...I would LOVE for President Bush to veto it..if it doesn't get take out.
This is one I am going to watch for, when the bill comes back to the Senate..
(please remind me if I forget, the old memory is going FAST..LOL)

Looks like the usual suspects on the Sunday shows, all rats all the time. Thank God for the "new media" to get the true story out.
The Miami or "Overtown 7" as they are know here, is a huge joke. These bozos are too dumb to break into a 7-11 much less blow up something. They used to do exercises at midnight in overtown, in costume.
One of the warehouse owners who knows them was interviewed on Miami radio today and he thinks if you gave them $500 they would agree to do just about anything.
Typical Miami dirtbags, the city is full of them, hardly the terrorist types.
The real terrorists were found through able danger, not screwing around and setting up Miami low-life criminal/terrorists wannabes like these idiots.

Here is another little bomb dropped in with that block of amendments:
An amendment tucked into a defense policy bill that the Senate passed on Thursday would raise the cap for U.S. dues from the current 25-percent share of the U.N. peacekeeping budget set by Congress to the 27 percent the United Nations has said Washington owes.I see that the deal is that the House has passed no such thing, as is the case with the "new envoy to N. Korea" business, so it is meaningless garbage. Apparently, Biden is trying to make himself feel important as Mr. Policy Guy. LOL. What a hoot he is.

Oh, great...I hadn't seen the UN one.
I wonder if he will be asked about his "Iraq plan" of dividing a soveriegn country into 3 different ones???
Doncha know if a Rep had come up with that..and made as big of a deal about it as Biden did....he/she/we would never have heard the end of it by the MSM....all ridicule all the time.
I haven't heard ANY negative reviews..in fact, I haven't heard a PEEP about that plan for weeks...even from Biden...LOL

What a good catch, TXsleuth. When something is passed by unanimous consent, I'm assuming that even Republicans signed on to this assumption that the administration has permitted the N. Korean threat to grow.
And who should this coordinator regarding North Korea be? Madeline Albright? LOL

Lugar fancies himself THE foreign policy expert. He was the Republican "go to" guy for foreign policy opinion during the Clinton years. Now he has to defer to Condi Rice and he doesn't like it.
He will babble and act "concerned" and trash Bush in a low-key way. I will watch him because he is my senator and I want to be able to call his office tomorrow and have my facts in order.
Why is it we never see Senator Inhofe or Senator Coleman? Your comment on Mitch McConnell answers my question, of course.
