U.S. Army Major General Bargewells report suggests there was no deliberate cover-up by senior Marine officers
(MONONGAHELA, June 22) Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey reacting to a Los Angeles Times article indicating that a soon-to-be-released report by Army Major General Eldon Bargewell indicates that NO COVER-UP took place regarding Marine actions last November 19 in Haditha, Iraq today released the following statement:
Jack Murtha owes Marine officers an apology, and Im here to demand it on their behalf.
On May 28, appearing on the ABC News show This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Jack Murtha was asked about the actions of Marine commanders after Haditha, So you believe there was a cover-up? Heres what he said:
No question about it There's no question about what happened. And the problem is, who covered it up? And why did they cover it up? Why did they wait so long? We don't know how far it goes. I mean, it goes right up the chain of command. Right up to General Pace. When did he know about it? Did he order the cover-up? Who ordered the cover-up?

Very well, but what will the conclusion be regarding ANY wrongdoing in Haditha apart from an alleged coverup?
I just read that Murtha was part of the Abscam bribery case. That was very big. Republicans should remind people of this.
Brave Sir Murtha ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Murtha turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Murtha!

Drip, drip, drip...every day the possibility Murtha can be done away with increases. We just need to get Irey some money. It is mainly Murtha's money that will save his seditious lard a**.
That won't hunt. As much as I despise Murtha, he was the only Congressman (of the 8) who did not take the Abscam bait, IIRC.
Ping!
Ping.
But he ratted on other Rats.
not too popular with some of them
Any poll results in this race?
Diana Irey's appearance on Dayside today showed the viewing audience that she is a serious candidate and is prepared to challenge Murtha in any venue.
IMO, Murtha will not debate Ms. Irey nor appear on a live show with her because he is aware she is not a pushover and he would be considered the loser by a great margin.
I saw her on Fox today too, and she did a great job of articulating this message.
Correct, but he did mention further negotiations. I'm from West PA and he is and has been a bit of a whacko. He was a staff officer and came home with 2 Purple Hearts and a few other medals. Kinda sounds like Kerry, doesn't it?
Not out of honesty, he was looking to make a better deal for himself than was offered.
Let's make sure we keep it real.
Last June, the Los Angeles Times reported how the ranking member on the defense appropriations subcommittee has a brother, Robert Murtha, whose lobbying firm represents 10 companies that received more than $20 million from last year's defense spending bill.
"Clients of the lobbying firm KSA Consulting -- whose top officials also include former congressional aide Carmen V. Scialabba, who worked for Rep. Murtha as a congressional aide for 27 years -- received a total of $20.8 million from the bill," the L.A. Times reported.
In early 2004, according to Roll Call, Mr. Murtha "reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco."
Laurence Pelosi, nephew of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, at the time was an executive of the company which owned the rights to the land.
The same article also reported how Mr. Murtha has been behind millions of dollars worth of earmarks in defense appropriations bills that went to companies owned by the children of fellow Pennsylvania Democrat, Rep. Paul Kanjorski.
Meanwhile, the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan campaign-finance watchdog group, lists Mr. Murtha as the top recipient of defense industry dollars in the current 2006 election cycle.

There have been no polls as yet and possibly never will be. Ms. Irey has been out in the district and is being received warmly by the people. Campaign funding and media exposure are what she most needs now.
