How a coalition of bloggers is turning the Democratic donkey

Veteran politicians under threat from 'netroots' uprising that bypasses corporate kingmakers

Julian Borger in Washington Thursday June 22, 2006 The Guardian

Joe Lieberman has a fight on his hands. Until very recently, the three-term Democratic senator and former presidential candidate was cruising to re-election in Connecticut, his home state. But the 64-year-old grandee now finds himself in sudden danger of falling victim to a new political life form: the internet candidate. Ned Lamont, a cable television entrepreneur, has come from nowhere to pose a serious threat, with the help of internet fundraising and anti-war bloggers outraged at Mr Lieberman's gung-ho support for the Iraq invasion.

The more crazed candidates that make the main election on their side, the better for us.

What they fail to mention is that the polls show that even if Lieberman loses the Dem nomination, he would still take the election if he ran as an independent.

The "looney left" wing of the party is driving the primary races, but the those candidates will have a harder time in broader elections (statewide, nationwide.)

Great point, and if he ran as an Independent, he would side with Republicans a lot more than Democrats after this snub.

A reverse Jeffords.

Howard Dean's internet savvy certainly got him far.

Internet savvy or not, I still don't see how he managed to chew through the leather straps.

"if he ran as an Independent, he would side with Republicans a lot more than Democrats after this snub. A reverse Jeffords."

I doubt he'd turn into a Jeffords, but it sure would be nice, and we know he'd be no worse. I wonder if he might turn into a Bernie Sanders Independent for the GOP.

Why is "the Guardian' reporting this? You'd think this would be something carried by American press. I understand the guardian anti- war (anti freedom) stance, but why is MSM silent? Could it be they don't want America to know that Anti-American ultra left groups control the Democrats?

Na! Can't be that! /s
