New wildfire buring in western Broward

West Broward County residents may see smoke and a glow in the distance because of another fire burning in the Everglades.
The new blazed, likely sparked by lightning yesterday, is covering about 2,750 acres between the Sawgrass Expressway and U.S. 27, near the Broward and Palm Beach County line, according to the Florida Division of Forestry.
No homes are in danger.
''When it gets up to a couple thousand acres, you get a pretty good glow. And it's growing,'' forestry officer David McCarty said.
Forestry officials are letting the fire burn because their equipment can't get to it. The fire is in a swampy area with a lot of muck, and the equipment would sink, McCarty said.
This fire comes near the end of wildfire season, when hot temperatures dry out the Everglades and there is little rainfall to put fires out. Several fires sent smoke and ash into western Broward last month.
