CCNY used to be one of the premiere public colleges in the United States. Jonas Salk, Colin Powell and Supreme Court Justice Frankfurter were some of its famous graduates. Then, in 1970 or so, the college began letting anyone in in the name of "diversity", and it started to go downhill. Giuliani forced CCNY to stop its open admission policies in 1999, and since then, academic standards have risen a bit.
