'Heroin Addict', 'Lunatic', 'Crackpot': Fox News Watch Unkind to Coulter

Jealous guardians of high standards or just . . . jealous? There was a rare bit of consensus on tonight's Fox News Watch, as journalists from left and right came together to excoriate Ann Coulter for what they judged to be her money-motivated excesses in her latest opus, 'Godless: The Church of Liberalism'. The focus was on Coulter's controversial statements about the Jersey Girls - the 9/11 widows turned harsh Bush administration critics. Highlighted was this excerpt from Ann's book:

"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them . . . I have never seen people enjoying their husband's death so much."

Here's a sampling of statement's from the News Watch crew:

National Review editor Rich Lowry observed that those who publicly proclaim their outrage "might as well go to the bank, take out bags of money, and hand them to Ann Coulter. This is bait. They take it every single time. And Ann, no matter what you think of her, is a marketing genius."

Lefty Neal Gabler: "I blame anyone who puts this lunatic on their air or gives her a forum. If she were a 300-pound balding man, she would be just a crackpot."

Jim Pinkerton, columnist at Newsday and TCS: "I think she jumped the shark on this one. She went too far. She crossed the line. She's like a heroin addict. She's addicted to publicity and money. And eventually it destroys you."

Summed up Jon Scott, guest-hosting for Eric Burns "ka-ching, ka-ching."

What cracks me up the most is...it's her opinion. And she's entitled to it. So what's the big deal?

Of course, I happen to agree with her 100%.

But I didn't hear the left whining and excoriating Michael Moore or Al Franken when they called conservatives all sorts of horrible names. I guess they AGREED with those names...

Wait, I GET it. The liberals/media still think they're in CHARGE of what the rest of us think!

The 'Jersey Girls' and their agenda pisses me off. Ann could have written her opinion more eloquently..as I said before, she is too caustic. She is an intelligent person, one who could get the conservative message across. What she did works for her, but not for our cause.

"Why is it OK for Coulter to do it and not me?"

Thank you for stooping to the same level that you accuse AC of . Kind of intoxicating isn't it to be so insiduous and invidious ?

We are all glad here you are having fun. So is Ann. The difference is that she is raking it in and driving it home to the holier than thou 'drive-by media.

Exactly. Another thing that seems to be happening with this is that some of us are still worrying about looking good to the MSM.

It is a recurring theme on Rush's show that you get nowhere trying to make the news media like you. Might as well go ahead and do what has to be done and let the MSM sputter around into insignificance (which is happening rapidly).

Her book makes liberals crawl out of the woodwork to denounce her and it is fun to watch it happen. They don't know how predictable they are.

No, I am not a 'last word' type of person, arasina. I speak my mind. If you don't like what I have to say...oh well

Curiosity made me look at your Profile Page. Where do you live in NY? I lived in NYC from 1997 to 2001. I still miss it in some ways.

What she did works for her, but not for our cause.

I know what you mean, but we have to stop worrying about what the media thinks of us. They won't stop hating us no matter what.

I think what Ann Coulter has done is to stir up our conservative (sleeping) hornets' nest when it really needed it.

I will not lose a minutes' sleep worrying about what the news media, or the people who stay up late at night passing judgement on everyone's political correctness, thinks of it.

If it's what you really believe, then go ahead and say it. To do otherwise would be deceitful.

Please tell me where she was incorrect.

No, I haven't read the book and won't.

This comment was cruel:

"I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much,"

This comment was cruel: "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much,"

But it was true and in my book, truth aces out everything else.

Good Night

As far as politics, I believe we are on the same page. We will win in the end, that I am sure of :-)

"For a guy, Gabler acts like everyone's ex-wife."

One of the greatest lines I ever read on FR. Either you're brilliant yourself, or you were channelling me.

I'm thinking that sometimes the Lord helps us out a little bit in spotting people of an evil mindset.

It wasn't his appearance that set off my red flags, it was the words of his mouth. How could he say those things and not look like a serpent?

For a while I thought it was just me that saw him that way, but now I see it is a widely held opinion.

Lowry must still be steamed about the "girly men at Nat'l Review" remark.

Maybe it's penis envy.

"You go, Ann, if the money is your baggage Good News!"

When Bill Clinton gets a $10 M adance to lionize himself or $100,000 per speach to preach to the converted it's just smart business. When Michael Moore drives a Brinks SUV for making clever editing and the left winks and calls them "documentaries", it's "what's wrong with giving the public what they want?"

When a conservative is rewarded for finally saying what everyone whose been paying any attention knows is true, it's drug-frenzied greed.

The pundits are using Ann to reprove her points.

"Lefty Neal Gabler: "I blame anyone who puts this lunatic on their air or gives her a forum. If she were a 300-pound balding man, she would be just a crackpot."

Censure and/or discredit.

The ONLY responses the left has for the truth.
