If you really want to hear some horror stories, talk to folks in MA. After seeing what is happening there, my fear is that it is spreading across government schools nation wide.
Still have never seen it much in the two areas I know about, but I wouldn't doubt it about MA. Nonetheless, my parents raised us with the tools and values necessary to deal with such things. My brother (still in high school) kicked some "intellectual" kid out of the house (he was working on a project with him) who tried to say something about gay marriage.
