I agree that Ann is sometimes over the top, but when you have an enemy like the Democratic Party and MSM whose rhetoric appeals to those who never bother to get an opposing view, her comments begin a discussion that offers another side. (I love run-on sentences)
I've used her "nasty comments" to make headway with people who never considered "the rest of the story" in what they were hearing from the press.
There are all sorts of weapons you can use in a war. Ann Coulter may seem unconventional, but she exposes the enemy's weak spots and does damage to their base.

Like calling Harriett Miers a "cleaning lady," and, on Bill Maher's show, advocating Bush's impeachment for nominating her. Yeah, that showed "the enemy", didn't it?

No. Coulter does a lot of damage to the conservative side, or at least, she used to.

The consolation may be that everybody expects her to be outrageous and now they just shake their heads in sadness at such bottomless vitriol.
