Senate Coverage -- (June '06)
thomas.loc.gov ^ | 6-05-06 | US Congress

Posted on 06/05/2006 7:30:29 AM PDT by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

If a hearing becomes available for download from C-SPAN.org, who would be interested in seeing a link to that hearing with a cue time for something worth hearing?

I saw a "debate" on Fox News a little while ago between ex-Senator Don Nichols, and a dem...about this Marriage Amendment.

I didn't get a chance to hear the whole thing...but the last line the dem said was "This is the most cynical move a President has made in the history of this country"...

So...that is the "talking point" of the dems. "cynical" is the word of the day, I guess.

Reid is already up to his dirty tricks. Doesn't get past McConnell.

I think what Reid is saying is that Frist's idea of attaching the immigration bill to the tax bill will mean that the dems will want to offer amendments to the tax bill and they won't be able to. The real effort seems to be to somehow embarras the House and prevent the immig. bill from going to conference. He did not give McConnell advance notice of this maneuver.

Yes, of course, Harry has had a week to make his laundry list of sins of the POTUS...

jeez louise, Specter is such lib!!

He must have spent all week finding quotes of Cheney, Sullivan, etc.

President Bush was right...the activist judges are going to overturn any of the State's bills...

Specter just said our nation's "tolerance" goes against this...

Tolerance is code word for "I am a lib and I want gay marriages".

As A.Hun just said on another thread, it isn't tolerance they want, it's approval.

Oh, terrific, Specter and Leahy getting together to gang up on Brownback...

How many speeches AGAINST this do we have to hear in a row???

I am NOT going to enjoy this debate.

I am NOT going to enjoy this debate.

You mean you don't like hearing the same things said over and over again. Other things are more important and this is just a compaign tactic.

No, Bah...

Of course there is more important stuff...and I think they should be debated first..

but, I knew that they Senators would USE this time, to debate everything they hate about Bush...and say we SHOULD be debating this, or that.

BTW...I TRIED to go to ken 5050's thread about the marriage amendment...

but, the 3rd post was about immigration, and it went DOWN from there.

Leahy just said that there "are still people in America that can't vote because of the color of their skin".

They can just LIE, LIE, LIE...without consequence, right?
