Bush is a heck of a guy and I have the greatest admiration for him. His biggest weakness is an unwillingness or inability to communicate his ideas to the American people, which of course was Reagan's greatest strength.

I think history will paint George W. Bush very favorably, but he's no Ronald Reagan and probably never will be. There's no topping the greatness in vision Reagan had.

"They argue now that funding of pro-democracy groups won't work in the Middle East - it will"

I seriously doubt any country that embraces a totalitarian religion will embrace democracy. I don't care whether they get 99% of a vote for it...the clerics will win. They've lived under the thumb since the seventh century..they have no concept of freedom and wouldn't know how to handle it.

I never thought I'd say this, but we need to leave Iraq to whatever outcome happens. Iraq can be handled by the Iraqi's.

Keep fighting and make those Islam Fascists bleed in Iraq, but do not encourage them to come and fight on our home turf.
Hoisting a white flag in Iraq and run away is a clear sign to Islamists that America will surrender.

Is this guy nuts? The next Reagan? Reagan was one of the top 5 Presidents of all time. Please don't insult my intelligence by placing Bush in that same class. He's marginal at best - better than Clinton and Bush 1, worse than Reagan and Coolidge.

The left's attacks against Bush are straight out of the same playbook they used against Reagan. Parallels can defiantly be drawn between the cold war and the war on terror, with liberals being on the wrong side of both wars.

On the other hand, Bush does not have the charisma that Reagan had.

President Reagan freed a half billion people from tyranny, President Bush has only freed 70 million. Still GW is more like Reagan than his dad. I like them both.

Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters

Reagan pulled the rug out from under the Soviet Union.. passed the baton to Newt..
Bush pulled the rug out from under the republican party.. and molested the base with the baton.. (use your imagination)

They do have some like characteristics.. 180 degrees out from each other..

20 "plus" million brand new democrats(amnesty) helps the republican party HOW?..

Very good observations. In many ways, Bush is more ambitious and better than Reagan, although that they faced different challenges and I think that Bush has a much harder row to hoe.

I don't agree with Bush 100%, but I didn't agree with Reagan, either, and my standard is not that all of my opinions be supported by whoever is President at a given time. However, I think Bush would be doing a better job if he had more support, but between them, the leftist press and the hysterical right have pretty much stripped that away.

President Bush has done yoeman work in the WOT. He would be more effective in that war if he was not so pig headed(principled), take your choice, concerning illegal aliens.

Yes, these are hopeful, but that is always the case when the story hasn't "ended."

I agree with the author that, in essence, light will prevail over darkness. The U.S. must win, and so it it will.

Fascinating list of comparisons. I'd never thought about it that way -- and I wonder if it wasn't intentional on Bush's part. I think, IIRC, that he (or maybe his supporters) has characterized him as a politician in the mold of Reagan. SO it would stand to reason that his philosophy that drives his foreign policy decisions strikes a similar pose as compared to Reagan's.

A better comparison is to Truman. Truman defined the strategy of the Cold War and Bush has defined the strategy of the GWOT.
