Chapman is suing the operator of an Internet blog, or web journal, for defamation and his camp blamed the pending lawsuit for throwing them off course and missing the filing deadline.
...
Chapman's spokesman, Faisal Gill, said Chapman missed the deadline because he was distracted by the ongoing defamation lawsuit against an Internet blogger.
"I think he was kind of caught up with that and it was just something that he missed," Gill said.
Chapman is suing a blogger who goes by the name Black Velvet Bruce Lee and follows Manassas politics.
On several postings, the blogger and his Web site contributors ridiculed Chapman, called him derogatory names and attacked his credibility.
.... Here's the UPDATE:
The initial report of the $200,000 lawsuit can be found here: http://blackvelvetbrucelee.blogspot.com/2006/06/lawsuit-filed.html

It sounds like this guy was already suing the blogger when he missed his deadline.
The lawsuit was just filed today. The deadline was last Friday.
I'm just reading the lawsuit now at http://blackvelvetbrucelee.blogspot.com/2006/06/lawsuit-filed.html
My favorite part so far is paragraph 19 of Count I that says his feelings were hurt.
"I had no idea there was a deadline," Chapman said. "We had a fundraiser the night before and it never came up. No one in my campaign knew there was a deadline."
Unfortunately thats also what drives too many civil courts
LOL, whomever typed up that filing isn't completely literate...
"His never revealed his identity" - from page 1 of the filing posted at the blog.
At any rate, I saw an article that stated the candidate graduating from high school can be pretty easily proven, so I think the blogger might be in a little bit of trouble with that one... I haven't followed this whole story so maybe there is a "half-truth" in there - like dropped out, went back and graduated? (o:
The blogger claimed that his information came from the school system records and that the candidate had received a GED instead.
I was speaking generally, as you can plainly see from my response above. Not specifically to anyone.
If he can't keep up with deadlines he definately can't keep up with the people's business.
Making a bad situation worse. NUTS!
LOL
