A preliminary military inquiry found evidence that U.S. Marines killed two dozen Iraqi civilians in an unprovoked attack in November, contradicting the troops account, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.
President George W. Bush said he was troubled by news stories on the November 19 killings of men, women and children in the town of Haditha, and a general at the Pentagon said the incident could complicate the job for the 130,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.
Allegations such as this, regardless of how they are borne out by the facts, can have an effect on the ability of U.S. forces to continue to operate, Army Brig. Gen. Carter Ham, deputy director for regional operations for the militarys Joint Staff, told a Pentagon briefing.
What did you expect the President to say...if they are guilty they will be punished.....and that's the truth....
Exactly.
There are 130,000 troops who are doing their job and doing it well and until it has been proven without a shadow of a doubt FReepers should be careful to not add to the hearsay.
Until and unless you have walked in their boots if you can't say anything good than best you say nothing at all!!
(not directed at you MNJohnnie, a collective"you")
Give me a break.
You're the queen of inflammatory statements.
This as all the signs of a Staged Atrocity. Dead bodies in a building that had supposedly not been fired on according to the famous "report" all the Anti War stooges are claiming to have seen.
What do you call that - - level-headed, calm, rational thought?
I am getting SO tired of this - msm and traitor pols making allegations and then trying the case in the press.
By the time the facts come out - weeks or months from now - it will be "common knowledge" that the marines are guilty.
Yesterday a picture of a dead Iraqi woman and child (how do we know they are Iraqi or even dead for that matter) was touted as "proof" that the marines had gone on a killing spree.
If they are dead and were shot the picture proves the marines did it how exactly? Unfortunately too many so called Americans are not willing to give our military the benefit of the doubt - something that used to be a given - and wait until the allegations are actually proven.
We make it so easy for those who are dedicated to our destruction.
I expect him to say, "We will investigate this matter". That's all.
Just my 2-1/2 cents == would be good to have the word "preliminary" inserted before probe in the title, like the article says ("preliminary military inquiry") as it reads as though this is a final finding, and it's not.
The President spoke today and he sounded like he had been whipped with a belt first. I wish I knew what was going on for real. I hope he's not being blackmailed or something.
How about this.
The Marines made a report that turned out to be in error. Let see. Bomb went off. We did not shoot at the building. Dead people in there when Marines search. They know they did not shoot up the building. So Marine Infantry Officer assumes "Must of been killed by shrapnel from the bomb". Later the Medical Experts discover the people had been shot. Since THEY exhamine the bodies and the Combat Marines do NOT, it would be perfectly logical for the field guys to misreport the cause of death. That is a mistake, NOT a cover up.
Chew on this. How about a Staged Atrocity? The Terrorist kill the Civilians and later detonate the IED. Then they have one of their "Iraq Civil Rights" groups accuse the Marines of "running wild" knowing all our Junk Media and "Anti War" types will jump all over the Marines on this without even bothering to find out a FACT.
I think everyone better take a deep breath and back way off. Some of you are making wild assumption based on clever spin and misreporting from the Junk Media.
It is being investigated, by the Marines!
As General Ham points out, just the allegations alone - as the senile Murtha's handlers know all too well - can be devastating.
Because too many of the marines fellow "Americans" are ready to believe it. MSM sez it so it must be true.
We know there is an investigation. That is all he should say.
He doesn't have to be "troubled" as if it's a foregone conclusion of guilt.
I couldn't be any more stupified. Do you ever read what you post?
The main ads one this goofy site is myspace.com and "donate". Is this article better than grabbing one at random out of your nearest HS writing class?
Good. This latest gaffe of being "troubled" is just another reason.
I'm almost certain that this is not true.
He doesn't have to be "troubled" as if it's a foregone conclusion of guilt.
It is troubling, I am troubled...what is wrong with that statement?......no one wants this to be true.
