Indeed, I suspect that many senators who voted for the legislation don't have a clue as to the potential overall increase in immigration. Perhaps some, but I'd wager a whole lot of 'em know exactly what they just passed.

It is a 614 page bill probably written by immigration lawyers hired by Kennedy and McCain. It it tough reading. If you try reading the
Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986" aka Simpson-Mazzoli, you can understand why it might be difficult for anyone to understand what is in the bill. Frankly, I doubt whether McCain or Kennedy were aware of everything that has been buried in it.
