I enlisted in the Delay intry Program on 7 Nov 1975 while still in high school. I went in the Army, Infantry, 11C10. Germany CSC 2/13Inf, TOW Platoon, then 4.2" Mortars. Then Ft Lewis 81mm platoon B 2/1 Inf. The I got out after 4 years and Joined the Air National Guard. Part-time and Full time for 24 1/2 years. Many deployments, 2 campaign ribbons and many great freinds. Met my wife there!
I was watching the movie 'Stripes' tonight. It was filmed in Louisville and Ft Knox, where I did Basic. Made me think aobut it.
OK OK enough about me.
Any other Vet out there who went in about the same time? I am busy and dont think about those times much, and about the old pals as much as I should. Just though I would sit down and let the world know that someone served and is proud of it.
Thanks for sharing.

Went in the Navy in May of 1975 - the night of my senior prom I was on a train to boot camp in Florida - my HS graduated me early so I could take advantage of the then last class to get Vietnam ear benefits. The cold war was on-gong and very few liked the military then.
Ended up as an engineer on a nuclear submarine until May of 80.
My 4 year hitch turned into 5 when I got an extention by Uncle Sam "at and for the convience of the government".

I went in (also Delayed Enlistment) 27 May 76. USAF. Did basic at Lackland (of course), went to Sheppard for computer operator training, spent the rest of my four years at Offutt (3900 CPUSS).
A big salute out to you and all of the rest of our fellow veterans!

Thanks to all.
I think we need to share our military experiences as soon there will be fewer to tell the tales!

Thanks for serving, ya'll.

In 1962, I served with an Army Warrant Officer who had served in WWII both in the Navy and later in the Army. He wore the Submariner's Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge and Glider Badge. I have never seen anyone else with that combination of badges.

Welcome to FR! How did you come by the name? There's obviously a story here...

I was watching the movie 'Stripes' tonight.Stripes had a small, yet significant influence on my decision to enlist (and provided inspiration during basic training!). I entered the DEP in the summer of 1989 and processed through MEPS on 1/9/1990. I had hit a dead end in life and joining the Air Force changed all that. Best decision I have ever made!
