I think we should drag this out closer to the election. That way people will not forget when he is busted.

"The 90 large was hidden in his home."

I should have read more on this. From the bits I have heard I just assumed he had a small freezer in his office and that is where they found the $90,000.

he has an obligation to protect the House as an institution and with an eye towards precedent

Maybe so, but Hastert really isn't the issue here. I have a hunch the documents themselves will make this kerfuffle seem insignificant.

Harry Reid's comment was interesting. . .

Wasn't that what he went to retrieve after Katrina hit? I recall something about he removed something heavy, like a safe and National guard were used to do the lifting.

Thanks for the info. It pretty much confirms my feeling that Pelosi couldn't care less about cleaning up the rot on her side of the aisle, and that all she's interested in is scoring political points. As if I needed confirmation of that, anyway. For that matter, neither Hastert nor anyone else on the GOP side seem to care much themselves. I have yet to hear a single member of the House come out and condemn what Jefferson actually did.

I wish we had a bunch like you in the House. Frankly, I'm so disgusted with ALL of them that I find myself not even caring anymore what happens to the Congress in November. Not a single solitary one of them deserves to be re-elected, at least in the so-called leadership. I suppose my attitude will improve down the road, but right now I just want to tear out what little hair I have left.

They said this search was due to Jefferson's refusal to cooperate in a subpoena duces tecum issued last November. His arrogance caused this stand off. Hastert should have let the Dems. carry the water for this and used it like they do the "culture of corruption". I read that the indictment will issue in July and I assume the Attorney General has enough evidence of wrong doing so that the sealing of the papers is of little significance.

Rush Limbaugh talked about William Jefferson, Democrat, Louisiana, during the Katrina aftermath. The story is hilarious as told by Mr. Limbaugh. ANYWAY, said W.J., D-LA, commandeered the military to get "items" out of his home in New Orleans. He carried out a box the size of a small refrigerator to the Humvee, or whatever, that was sinking in the muck. The military had to call another military vehicle to get them out. All for one, low-life, Congresscritter and his ill-gotten gains.

but notice how quickly the attitude that Bush is goofing up again shows up on all threads anymore

Ah, yes. The varmints jumping to lay blame on the President....before they know *hit from Shinola about the details involved.

Lots of trolls running around FR these days and they've shown their bare bottoms yet again, I'd wager.

I remember all about William Jefferson getting the National Guard to take him to his house after Katrina and bringing stuff out. I remembered they kept talking about something the size of a small refrigerator/freezer being carried out. I just assumed that he then took the small freezer/refrigerator to his office in DC and that is where they found the $90,000. I have since read/learned it was at his house they found it.

Hiding $100,000 cash bribe only takes a freezer. Duke would need to be David F$&%ing Copperfield to hide his house, boat and car. Duke was so stupid that they didn't need to go to his office.:)

It took a while to build a case against Duke, but he made it pretty easy. Jefferson will take a little bit longer. The FBI videotaped him taking a bribe and recovered 90% of the cash from his freezer back in August. This move on his office is probably just the last nails on an air tight coffin.

It does raise a constitutional issue, but one the FBI appeared to take extreme measures to mitigate. Here is the kicker. The FBI subpoenaed the records they went after and Jefferson did not turn them over. A source in his office said they were there so they went for the warrant. If it stands up in court this will buy another obstruction of justice charge.

one random thought is that the GOP is remembering the clinton years, and looking towards a day when they might have HRC running the white house. Can you imagine her if searches of congressional offices have already been set by precedent as ok under a GOP president?

I have since read/learned it was at his house they found it.

This $90,000 cash that was found was pre Katrina. It was recovered from Jefferson home in VA on Aug. 3, 2005 and Katrina hit New Orleans on Aug. 29, 2005.

Now what he took from the NO after Katrina may well have been cash but different cash.
