I'm for getting rid of RINO's from states where we can elect Conservatives. I'm for getting rid of RINO's from blue states only if we still have at least 52 Senators and a five seat advantage in the House. I'd rather have 51 real honest-to-goodness Conservative Senators than 49 Conservatives and 11 RINOs.

Your position is kind of confusing to me Jim, I thought you were all about stopping liberals.

Will wou allow liberalism to win in order to defeat RINOism? Will you support that agenda?

I guess the pressing question is: Where have all the bushbots gone? Long time passing

To: WestVirginiaRebel

Depends. People who trash the president or the GOP or us "bushbots" with their every post are not helping matters. It gets old.

Looks to me like the chief Bush-Bot posted this thread!

Furthermore, you'll be hard pressed to show us a post wherein we Bush-Bots have not advocated the election of the most conservative of candidates IN THE PRIMARIES.

When will you minions of wardaddy's EVER learn?

*** courtesy pings to wardaddy and Jim Robinson for the sole reason that I have mentioned same by name. ***

Explain to me the upside of having the DEM instead of Specter. No one's given me that explanation yet.

You've never asked me, but I've explained it a dozen times at least here.

Right now we are 55 to 45. If the Dem had won (against either Toomey -- had he won -- or Specter, the Senate would be 54-46.

We still are the majority in this case. No downside.

Without Specter (let me say that again. It sounds so good.) WITHOUT SPECTER, Jon Kyl becomes the Judiciary Chairman. Kyl is a reliable pro life conservative.

No downside, only up as far as I can see so far.

Joe Hoeffel becomes that junior senator in the minority party. No special committee assignments, no power to speak of, just one vote out of 100.

Now, if I remember the ACU numbers correctly

Specter 43% Hoeffel 8% ACU deficit 35% in the overall 100 member Senate makeup or an average (theoretical) drop of 1/3rd point per senator. Ouch. That looks bad, doesn't it?

Now lets look at the other part of the equation.

Kyl 97% Specter 43% ACU enhancement 54% within the 18 member committee. An average (theoretical) pickup of 3 points per member.

Overall gain 54% Overall loss 35% = 19% net gain in conservatism and in an extremely important and powerful position.

Yep, there's the upside.

The other side has boatloads of Zells. And the Dems appreciate them all.

The cushion is the key. If the loss of the marginal RINO changes control of the Senate or the House, that is a new ballgame. That is why we need to pick our battles with some care...

Okay, South Carolina. Dump Lindsay Graham!

Can't until 2010.

And I agree that Specter is an abomination, and I would rather have had Toomey lose than Specter win. But the people of PA are somewhat RINO-like so electing a RINO is not a surprise...

you wrote: Don't kid yourself. Hillary would immediately give full citizenship (complete with Democrat voting card) to every illegal alien and anyone else asking.

i think a lot of us share your belief. what a lot of us are struggling with, though, is how this makes !hillary a worse choice than george bush on this issue?

Don't count Newt out. He is now visiting a lot of states saying all the right things. Recently he was in New Hampshire. Now why do you imagine that might be? I say it's for a 2008 run for the White House.

Are you serious? Can't we have better than an adulter? Please!!!

Newtie talks a BIG game, but, when all is said and done, he's only good as a backbencher. He strapped in kneepads for Clinton, has his own ethics problems ( adultery ), and has a touchy-feely/NEW AGE side, that is nothing even remotely akin to Conservatism.

Oh yes, he yearns to be president, but he never shall be.

That is exactly what you are hearing.

In fact, just the other day, some bots were bashing conservatives for complaining about Bush and -- get this -- rubbed it in our face that 'we knew what he was for when he ran. If you didn't like it, you shouldn't have voted for him'.

So let me see if I have this right.

We listened to them in 2000 and 2004 and voted for him because the alternative was so much worse. Then, when we complain about what we got, they say that we should have withheld our votes.

Then we are supposed to be sheeplike enough to follow their advice again? I don't think so.

I can't go along with that sentiment. The Democrats are so completely vile that I could never support one who would even be associated with them.

There are a few decent Dems; they are rare and far between; but the Great Ronald Reagan was originally a Democrat.

But, there are Libertarians and Independants who could gather a few votes if they came down hard on the illegal immigrant issue.

Keeping Hillary out is too important an issue to ignore.

Newtie has no chance! Conservatives ( and they are the ones who show up to vote in primaries...in the majority ! ) have long memories and know exactly who and what Newtie is.

It does happen the other way around sometimes. Senator Coburn won the senate seat with grass roots support when the party elite endorsed another candidate in the primary.

The problem is your argument against the RINO Specter would presumably apply to ALL RINOs. So let's see where that gets us.

We're at 55-45 now. Using your strategy, we give the DEMs Chaffee, Collins, McCain, Specter, DeWine, Hagel, Graham, Snowe. Am I forgetting any? That's 8. So, if your strategy worked on every RINO, we'd have a 53-47 DEM majority, and we'd be saying hello to Majority Leader Reid. Good idea LOL.

And that's the whole point. If there's two libs to choose from, one of em's gonna win. It might was well be ours. There's clear upsides.
