State health officials on Wednesday shut down a Birmingham abortion clinic after a woman was told she was six weeks pregnant and given an abortion-inducing drug, then delivered a 6 pound, 4 ounce stillborn child at a local hospital.[Not the abortion clinic]
The State Board of Health issued an emergency order of license suspension on Wednesday against Summit Medical Center of Alabama on Southside.
“That’s not something we do very often,” said Dr. Donald Williamson, state health officer. “The incident involved multiple and serious violations of the rules. There was no other means to address it except an emergency suspension.”
The order said that a patient went to Summit and received an ultrasound administered by a non-physician, in violation of state rules, on Feb. 20. She was told she was six weeks pregnant.
That same day, the clinic gave her a dose of RU-486, an abortion-inducing drug, also without a physician administering it as required. “What’s clear here is that it wasn’t used appropriately,” Williamson said.

On Feb. 26, the patient went to an emergency room at a Birmingham hospital “with the head of a baby protruding” and delivered a “stillborn, macerated, six pound, four ounce baby,” according the suspension order.
The suspension is effective for 120 days, but a June 20 hearing will determine further action. “Any action is possible as a result of the hearing,” Williamson said. “The license could be reinstated. They could be facing a permanent revocation of the license.”
An independent hearing officer will be in charge of the hearing and make a recommendation to Williamson.
“I’m always distressed when we do a survey and find serious problems in a facility,” Williamson said.
Efforts to reach officials with Summit Medical Center were unsuccessful.

Partially decomposed, actually...this child was 6lbs. 4oz. (at least) when he was killed...(Mother was more like six months-not six weeks pregnant, IMO)...this is DISGUSTING!

Either abortions are never done after 12 weeks, or they are never prosecuted.
Given the sheer number of abortions and abortion providers, I'm thinking that the answer is that they are never prosecuted.
Locally, it is not a secret among the medical community who is a little (lot!) lax in determining the age of the baby.
