ACLU Calls on President Not to Deploy Military Troops to Deter Immigrants at the Mexican Border
Stop The ACLU ^ | 16-May-06 | John Stephenson

Posted on 05/16/2006 6:13:50 AM PDT by Jay777

After listening to Bush’s speech on immigration, most of the right side of the blogosphere is disappointed. There were a few things however that I do agree with. It is no suprise that everything I thought was a good idea, the ACLU have come out against.

There will be plenty of pundits out there telling you the many, many flaws in Bush’s immigration reform plan. I am going to point out the few things that are good ideas, and positive steps forward….all of which the ACLU disagree with. Hey, I am not buying Bush’s B.S., but I’m not going to buy the ACLU’s either.

Deploying the National Guard: Even though they will only be temporary and acting as a stopgap force until the federal government can hire more civilian contractors to fill the needed positions, it will still act as a good detterent. It may be too little, too late, but it is a step in the right direction for border security…even if it is only a baby step. So here is one good idea, and of course the ACLU is against it.

The following can be attributed to Anthony D. Romero, ACLU Executive Director:

“Turning immigration enforcement policy into another military operation is not the answer. The president’s proposed deployment of National Guard troops violates the spirit of the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the military from getting into the business of civilian law enforcement.

Excuse me? Repelling an invasion by a foreign nation is a civilian duty? Mexico is invading us one illegal at a time. It only makes sense to use the military to help stop the invasion.

The Posse Comitatus Act was passed to remove the Army from civilian law enforcement and to return it to its role of defending the borders of the United States.

........... to Deter Immigrants ............ Bush’s speech on immigration,...........

You know you are losing the public relations battle when even your own side adopts the Newspeak of your opponent.

Every American who is not a pure-blooded Native American has an immigrant in his family tree and therefore being against "Immigrants" is an un-American as being against Motherhood and Apple Pie.

Why give that advantage to your opponent?

This is not about "immigrants" any more than the subject of burglars is about "house guests". This is about "illegal aliens".

What a disconnect! Do these people even realize that whatever gets done it will be Congress doing it, not the POTUS?
What part of "The House And Senate Must Pass A Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill" is so hard to understand?

Well, if the ACLU is against
it, we should definitely get
started on sending the troops!

Idiots. The President already
said the National Guard would
NOT be doing the rounding up:

"One way to help during this transition is to use the National Guard. So in coordination with governors, up to 6,000 Guard members will be deployed to our southern border. The Border Patrol will remain in the lead. The Guard will assist the Border Patrol by operating surveillance systems … analyzing intelligence … installing fences and vehicle barriers … building patrol roads … and providing training. Guard units will not be involved in direct law enforcement activities — that duty will be done by the Border Patrol. This initial commitment of Guard members would last for a period of one year. After that, the number of Guard forces will be reduced as new Border Patrol agents and new technologies come online."

Thanks to our courts, the
ACLU has gotten a bloated
view of itself.

Sad to say, but Bush and the ACLU are in perfect harmony on this issue.

Idiots. Congress hasn't said anything yet and THEY'RE the ones who ultimately decide just what the NG will be doing.

Great analogy, and it would make a great tagline.

And I call on all true Americans to go out and assault every a.c.l.u. lawyer.
Some twice.

Anyone with a lick of sense would have to question their position on an issue if they found out it agreed with the ACLU. I know when they do something (VERY rarely) that seems to agree with my thinking, I get really suspicious. I figure either I need to rethink my position or wonder what their ulterior motive is.

The Framers made a grave error in not adding a provision to the Constitution that would allow the United States to become a full-blown, right-wing military junta one year out of every 100 years.

Thoroughly scrubbing the leftwing filth out of the machinery once in a while is required maintenance and would keep Liberty's motor humming and extend its life by many centuries.

Why hasn't Congress had an investigation into who and what the ACLU really is?

Yawn.... the ACLU has become so predictable. They're downright boring. Come on, lefties! Give us some more interesting villains in this drama! The scales on these dragons are made of paper and we're getting bored slaying them.

Be of good cheer, right wingers! The ACLU is fighting mad, so we know Bush is doing SOMETHING right.
