Right. Apparently there is only one issue any more - illegal immigration. It was not the most important issue in 1978, 1985, 1994, 1997 or 2003 but it's suddenly the only thing we should focus on. Bush doubles the guards at the border and yet some cynics say he's "doing nothing".

Bush didn't even hire the number of Border Agents that Congress authorized. This whole National Guard to the border BS is just a giant smoke screen. There needs to be about forty thousand personnel on the border to close it down. This doesn't even come close. Bush didn't say one word about cracking down on employers of these criminals or cutting them out of government hand outs. Way too little way too late.

It was not the most important issue in 1978, 1985, 1994, 1997 or 2003 but it's suddenly the only thing we should focus on.

Yes it was. We just weren't paying attention. The traitors in Washington were busy selling our country out from underneath us and we were too complacent to notice.

It's probably that everyone is hoping and praying he does it right and redeems himself , 'cuz he's screwed up almost everything else.

I am only speaking for myself, but to me immigration is not the most important issue- border security is of utmost importance and should have been since 9/11 for all Americans. Illegal immigration to me is the proof of how insecure our border is; politicians and activist groups that support illegals have made illegals the big issue.

This is why getting the border secured is at the top of my list, and I think those here illegally should be dealt with later, not as part of the same package. I believe joining the two issues will take away from the importance of securing the border.

The reason illegals have become the issue instead of border security is because illegals (especially when called immigrants instead of illegals) are more easily defended than an open border is in a time of war.

Just my opinion.
